Looking at my DA codex and thinking about making a Deathwing army I saw that DA Drop Pods can carry Deathwing Terminators even though they count as 2 marines like those in Land Raiders, I think this is unfair and a really crap rule as they can already deep strike. It is also out of keeping with the background and silly looking at the model. Does anyone agree with me?

How is this a Rules Question?

Furthermore, Deathwing Terminator Squads cannot take Drop Pods as a Transport. What that rule is for is for when Characters with Terminator Armour join the Unit in Reserve, they can join them in a Drop pod, you know, just like "Codex: Ultramarines and Pals".

... Yes, because Models in Terminator Armour may ride in them. Now read Page 82. You will see that Deathwing Terminator Squads do not have the option of buying a Drop Pod as a Transport, nor can they EVER end up in one as Drop Pods may only br bought as Dedicated transports. What that rule is for is to allow Terminator Armour Clad IC's to Join Squads in a Drop Pod.

On a slightly related note, BA terminators can take drop pods.

Though I'm very new to the game, and I must ask what advantage the drop pod gives over deep striking?

Drop Pods have a Special Rule that prevents them from Mishapping if they scatter onto impassible terrain or other models.

They also get to deep strike on the first turn. half of them anyway.

They also bring an AV12 storm bolter to the fight, which is inconsequential compared to it's cargo, however, to get rid of it the enemy would have to shoot anti-tank weaponry at it, so it's essentially an oft-overlooked annoyance in it's own right.

This only applies to Codex: Space Marines armies. None of the more specific chapters have this rule with their drop pods.

Except for Space Wolves for the next month or so.

Drop Pod assault rulehas nothingon Deathwing anyway as half of your terminator squads can come in 1st turn there anyway.
