I usually model the base of my models with sand and grass.

Now I'm putting together some Ravenwing Bikers.

Any ideas how to model the bases?

Best idea would be so that they match the rest of your army?

Personally, the article about space marine bike basing on the gameswork shop is really, good shows you what they did with a small description and then shows you it finished off with a lick of paint.

Model a small landmine just in front of the front tyres

Though I might look into putting them on bases which more or less match the rest of your army, but perhaps with patches of tarmac showing through, like they are driving over disused roads which have a coating of earth, rocks, grass etc.

Maybe have a couple of bikes on big slabs of it that have been thrown up by explosions.

I think do it so that it matches the rest of your army.Yet perhaps as Silver suggested, perhaps they could be riding on something that looked somewhat like a disused road.

For the sarge, perhaps have him ramping off of some dead enemys or something like that.

IF one crashes while moving through difficult terrain, add a small rock in front of the front wheel. But, so that it looks small in comparison to the front wheel.
