Note that the older the Codex, the more overpriced Jump Packs are.

SM and BA are paying more-or-less "fair" prices for Jump Infantry, although for the BA, they also buy part of a DC for the points

DA are slightly overpriced, and that is almost certainly intentional due to the DA preference for / GW encouragement of RW Bikers.

Nah, but they do have troops on jetpacks, that's not to be overlooked.

Personally I like the BT jump troops. 22pts per man but 5pts a Plasma Pistol, 6 pts a flamer, 2pts per model for Meltabombs and they'll most likely have preferred enemy from the Champ Vow.

The thing with seraphim is they let you put down accurately placed Divine Guidanced flame templates, charge, then Hit and Run++ on your opponant's turn. Very importantant for such a melee starved army.
They also give a +1 Ld bonus to friendlies within 6", and have a built in Simulacrum Imperialis, which is handy. Oh, and twin linked bolt pistols.

Still, assuming they keep the same rules next edition, I wouldn't be shocked to see them drop to 20 points per, or 18 if they get a plastic kit. Maybe 110 points for the first 5, 18 points for each additional.

Sorry, but you slid an orange into this apple basket. I don't think DH/ GK should be in the list.

While they are a FA choice, once they enter play, they're still standard, overpriced foot sloggers with no access to a transport.

Everything else has their jump packs throughout the game, or can trade them for a transport and continue to be manueverable.

Yes, I do own the BT codex. I purchased it after comparison. 22pts with bonus powers from IC.

Not only that, but they can have an IC with holy hand grenade to soften the enemy up (keep in mind that, as a wargear item, the orb doesn't scatter).

DH and GK are here to compare ALL imperial units. Apples,oranges and lemonds. DH/GK teleport then, are foot units. The teleport ability is a bonus. This posting is about the Fast attack/Assault troops.
I was looking for a IM army, until SW codex is out for 5th ed.

You are correct, they(DH,GK) are not Jump Troops. I welcome all opinions and "little tricks" are appreciated. thanks wehrkind.

most of these things do not make sense. I often feel they simply pull these points out of thier butt. THey should establish a baseline then assign points of probability of kill, durability etc. Instead they just make things up and are too busy trying to figure out how to make more money. That is why there are often unbalanced situations in this Game.

GW has some formula to determine the point cost. Notice some units that can't have shooting weapons, have a high BS. Sisters Repentia have those chainswords from hell have a BS of 4.
Maybe they can throw rocks real good.

hey, If PAGKTAS's (long acronym, lol) are included, can we stick rough riders in here? They are fast attack too, and move faster than jump inf, sometimes. IF we are going there we alsom ight drag in raptors, and tau batt.... or not.

My current army is SoB. I wanted a SM army, w/close combat ability. One goal is to have a 15 marine unit for the LRC. Until the SW codex is out, I wanted to work on a SM army.
I am sharing the data I collected. Let dakker's comment on it. I only have Imperial books(not IG) That is all I have for the data. I will let others provide the complete compairson of All 40K models.

As has been said, the differences you're looking at are primarily due to when the codex came out.

The Space Wolves are the oldest codex out of the list, and fast attack was valued considerably differently then. WH fall under a similar pricing structure; 22 points for S3 T3 jump troops isn't any better than 30 points for a Blood Claw with a pack.

Starting with the beginning of fourth edition, there was a sharp drop in the point cost of jump troops; SM Assault Marines dropped to 22 points each. Dark Angels (in late 4th edition) followed a similar pricing point. Blood Angels did as well, although as I'll get to later, they might be undercosted now. Turbo Boosting on bikes was introduced at the same time, and as a result bikes didn't see the same discount applied (as you'll note with the SW codex, biker and jump pack Blood Claws cost the same; in all later codices bikes are significantly more expensive than jump packers. While Jump Packs have advantages in raw agility, the bikers pay more to get Turbo Boost, +1T, Relentless, and typically superior weapon options).

Then, starting with 5th edition, the 4th edition jump pack discount got stacked with the 5th edition non-scoring discount, knocking SM Assault Marines down to 18ish (depending on how much you consider the sergeant upgrade to be worth) points each. DA are overpriced because their codex was released pre-non-scoring discount. I suspect an up-to-the-minute BA codex, however, would give you similar costs to what they pay now, if not more, as their assault troops score.

So, yeah, overall, jump packers have been on a downward spiral in price for the past decade. That's the main reason for the differences. DA/BA jumpers cost 22 points because 4e SM jumpers cost that much; 5e SM are only cheaper because they have the non-scoring discount built in.

This was the data I collected from Imperial codex. I was looking for a SM/Imperial army to build. I got rid of all my armies except: SM, SoB,DH and OOP IG.
I just wanted to share the information I collected until a chapter was chosen. With the data I choose BT until SW codex is out (that don't suck/too cheesee).

Like I said the data was limited. Feel free to make a list with all 40K models and all troop types.

I did not mean to shake thing up. I added DH because I have the codex. Yes, If I included DH, why not everyone else. If people are having a difficulty with DH, Remove them from the post. Only talk about imperial troops with jump packs.
I did not think DH would cause such problems.
