I hope this hasnt been asked before. I'm new to Dakkadakka.
Now for my question. Are all Tyranids, excluding Rippers, immune to all forms of instant death? or just instant death from weapons with a strength double the creatures toughness? Thanks for responses in advance.

Only if they are in range of synapse or provide synapse, which would make them in range of it anyway. Unless there's something else that I've missed.

Greetings,

Good question. It has been asked before so should be an easy question. try the search function to see if that specifically helps as well.

They clarified it in the newest Tyranid FAQ.
First answer.
Yes, synapse grants immunity to ID.

Without any vehicles, it almost covers the disparity, imo.

That would be a Tyranid Errata, which means that it does indeed grant Immunity to all forms of Instant Death

Just remember that models with Brood Telepathy ('Stealers, Carnifexes etc) are not Immune to ID unless within Synapse Range. I find a lot of people "forget" that 'round these here parts

Not rippers though. The codex specifically excludes them from the benefit.

I don't own or have access to a nid codex, but is there some way to give genestealers an extra wound?

Just remember that Synapse helps against Normal Force Weapons, but Nemesis Force Weapons Still pwn them.

And although most Tyranid creatures are immune to ID, they are not immune to death by weapons of low Ap

What does low AP have to do with instant death? Low AP number just deny armor saves.

Is the force weapon ability to kill a model considered instant death? I thought ID applied only to taking a wound at least twice the strength of the models toughness?

Strength doubling Toughness is one way to cause ID. Current Force Weapons cause ID. They are not the only way - e.g. Fabius Bile and a number of other folks cause it on every hit.

Older Force Weapons (generally NFW used by high ranking GK), and a few other dated weapons and effects, do not cause ID, they remove models.

There are a few current ways to circumvent EW still, but they are less common and less likely to work (turning into spawn etc.)

Also something to remember that I've had to argue with several of my friends is that it also grants it to the figure with synapse as well. I am not sure if the earlier codecies did not give it to the synapse creature or not, but in the most current 'nid codex synapse creatures are immune to instant death from their own synapse.

Well, if they bring that up again, point out that the model is obviously within 12" of itself.

shrug

But that requires division by 0, which causes an assplosion.

The codex clearly specifies that the leadership and ID immunity benefits apply to the synapse creature itself.

There's no reason to argue about whether or not the model is within 12" of itself (since you obviously can't measure the distance from any point to itself)

So does assuming Synapse does not apply to the model that grants it.

As for the codex, ajfirecracker, sure - but

Gwar! was half joking.

But then, so was I.

I am pretty sure he will point out if I am incorrect in that.
