What's this?!

Aside from that, not much we haven't already seen elsewhere, but pics of the stuff mentioned can be seen here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATERMASTERS_STORE_NEW_STUFF__11.html

On to the newsletter...

Hi There,
Welcome to the Forge World newsletter and this time we have an onslaught of new Ork releases for the warbosses among you, as well as some updates, events news and our first teasers for the forthcoming Games Day UK. But first we would like to say thank you to everybody that came to see us at Games Day Germany in Cologne for making it such a great show, now onto the Orks!

Alan Bligh
Forge World

The Great Waaagh Approaches!
We have no less than eight new releases for the Orks this newsletter and observant hobbyists have probably already guessed our renewed focus on the Orks is all to do with our next Imperial Armour book, which will feature these savage xenos in desperate battle against the Imperium. This first big batch of Ork releases features some great new vehicle mounted weapons, a new hybrid Enclosed Trukk model and one brand new full resin tank, the Ork Big Trakk. These are all superbly detailed models and can add some fantastic variety and character to your Ork Armies. You can see pictures of new releases on the links below.

Our new Ork releases are:

Big Trakk Designed by Will Hayes (full resin tank model) This heavy Ork transport can also be used to carry Big Gunz into battle. A brutal-looking machine, the Big Trakk comes with twin-linked big shootas, a massive gas-turbine engine, and ramming tusks.

Enclosed Trukk Designed by Will Hayes and Phil Stutcinskas. (a hybrid resin and plastic model using the Ork Trukk kit). The model makes for a great alternative for your Trukk fleet as well as an excellent base for your own conversions. Its enclosed cab can also be used to represent the Armour Plates upgrade on a trukk.

Flakk gun Designed by Phil Stutcinskas (full resin Big Gun with three grot crew and an Ork gunner) this is a quad-barrelled elevating cannon platform that can give the Orks some much needed air-cover as well as rip apart light vehicle squadrons with ease.

Gretchin Crew Designed by Mark Bedford (eleven resin grots) some wonderfully characterful grots to crew your big gunz or use as riggers for your vehicles, and generally make a nuisance of themselves!

Big Zzappa Designed by Will Hayes (full resin Big Gun with three Grot crew) this marvellous looking `death ray` is adorned with all manner of strange-looking gubbinz and is as dangerous to the enemy as it is unreliable.

Killkannon Designed by Will Hayes (full resin Big Gun with three Grot crew) able to blast apart even heavily armoured troops as the Orks advance, the Killkannon easily lives up to its name and adds heavy firepower to your Waaagh!

Big Lobba Designed by Will Hayes (full resin Big Gun with three Grot crew) this somewhat crazed-looking gas-powered bomb launcher is used to lob explosive shells high in the air, and possibly the occasional grot with it!

Supa-Kannon Designed by Mark Bedford (full resin really Big Gun with three crew, available either on its own or as a compete Battlewagon with Supa Kannon using the plastic Ork Battlewagon kit) This giant artillery piece looks just as ramshackle and brutal as you might expect from the Orks, and can be used to smash enemy defensives, shatter bastions and fortifications so the boyz can get stuck in.

Many of these kits are designed so that in true Orky style you can mix and match between them and particularly in the case of the Big Gunz you can fit them to Trukks, our Half Trakk, Big Trakks, Gun Wagons, Battle Wagons and your own custom models. We also have some great new grots to crew your vehicles and weapons. Each of the new Big Gunz comes with its own crew, and you can also buy the full set of eleven models separately! A quick note on the Supa-Kannon as well, this is a huge gun intended to be mounted on a Battlewagon, Big Trakk or something equally as large! Look out for more Ork releases in the near future.

All of these models are available now for immediate release, and experimental rules for them can be downloaded under the Big Trakk rules Here.

Imperial Armour Volume Seven, The Siege of Vraks Part Three

Games Day UK 2009
Forge World`s next event is also by far the largest in our calendar; Games Day UK, and we are already in feverish preparation for the big day itself. As ever we will have our whole design team on hand to answer your questions and preview what we have in store for the future, our massive sales stand with a whole articulated lorry`s worth of stock, display boards, special games and more. We have a Games Day UK page on our website which we`ll be updating with new information as we get closer to the event, but rest assured we will have some exciting major new releases for you on the day. More details will be made available in our special Games Day preview newsletters over the next month.

Imperial Armour Update PDFs
Available now to download from our website Here are new rules updates for Imperial Armour Volume One, Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy and Imperial Armour Volume Two, Space Marines and Forces of the Inquisition. These updates bring the game content of these two books into line with the current Codexes on which they are based, so our models can be used in your games of Warhammer 40,000 and Apocalypse without confusion. Further updates covering our other books will be appearing in the near future.

I don't think it is, Brook.
They showed the event exclusive, which is the Death Rider Commissar.

I could be wrong, and it could be some form of Plague Herald to go with Scabby.

I am very sad that the Vulture Punisher cannons are twin-linked and not two individual weapon systems. Oh feth it, you can't win them all. At least I can field her now.

I like the Ork Track thingy, although the Big Lobba looks a bit too goofy.

The idea of Orks using a lot of modified 'heavy lifter' type construction vehicles seems to fit into the setting as well if not better than using more conventional trucks. Maybe it's because my image of the 40k setting seems to be based on the idea that vehicles are only used for tasks where man and animal power can't do the job.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

The Punisher Cannon thing for the Vulture is a great example of perceived or imagined power.

Everyone just looks at the "Heavy 20" part of the Punisher and assumes it's awesome. They forget the fact that it has a pathetic range, pathetic strength value and pathetic AP value. It's a bad weapon. Forcing you to pay 50 points whilst giving up ALL your other guns for it is just insane.

But GW and FW think it's powerful, which is why it costs more than any other type of Russ bar the Executioner, and why it's so expensive here.

So, again, FW rules are a complete wash of mediocre nonsense. The Conquerer is still "the ultimate suck", as it has a somewhat better gun now, but can't move around firing more guns like a Russ can. I am happy to see the Manticore has kept is awesome rockets and can upgrade to get the ones from the Guard Codex. And Autocannon Chimeras for +5 points! YAY!

I think the Punisher is only being cost as much as it is given the context.

Against Orks, ala what we'll most likely be seeing in the upcoming IA book?

I'm willing to bet it's gonna cause some serious damage.

Costing a general unit because of the context of a specific campaign book is bad rules writing.

It is, but look at the Grey Knights Land Raider Redeemer's cost HBMC.

That thing is amazing, in the context of the Ordo Malleus Covenant of Destruction.

But otherwise?
I dunno.

I'm really excited for this re-write. Though I do miss the heavy weapon teams that could be taken in a mechanized platoon..... Also don't forget that the vulture is twin linked. so for a 155pts you get 20 TL St5 shots when moving 12". I don't think it's so bad, it's something like 10 wounds on standard marines. That's purely on average shooting. It'll eat non-meq armies for breakfast too. I think it's pretty cool myself.

Nevermind the fact that it sucks as a weapon against orks, too.

Oh shoosh Aggy - GW doesn't know that. They see Heavy 20 and go "ZOMG! POWERFUL!". And if GW doesn't know that, then FW sure as hell doesn't know that. And then good 'ol Warwick decides that the best way to use the weapon is to give it to a Vulture. But giving a Vulture two of these ZOMG! POWERFUL! guns would just be too ZOMG! POWERFUL! for anyone to handle, so he makes it Twin-Linked and makes it 25 points. Then he forgets that they're skimmers now and not flyers, and that the Vendetta exists. Then he's reading over the page again and stumbles across this Heavy 20 gun he forgot he wrote about and goes ZOMG! POWERFUL! and immediately doubles the cost because of just how ZOMG! POWERFUL! it is.

Then a week later he's reading that page again and see's this crazy powerful gun that he forgot about. He sees that it's Heavy 20 - but not only that, it's twin-linked Heavy 20! He screams ZOMG! POWERFUL! and ups it to 50, and then forgets to give the Death Rider Apoc formation special rules.

Can you tell I don't much care for Warwick Kincaide yet?

The Ironic thing about your post HBMC is that you did exactly what you accused Warwick of doing i.e. doing something and then forgetting you did it.
You took 25 points, doubled it to 50 points and then "Increased" that to 50 points.

anyone notice that they changed back to the old unit transport capacities on the land raiders. in the last update, they upped them to 12 and 16, now the regulars and the prometheus are back to 10, while the crusader stayed at 16. Misprint or what?

Standard Games Workshop operating procedure. They really couldn't give a toss what their rulebooks say.

Hrm. Conquerors aren't lumbering. Almost seems like a nerf (or rather, just not buffed, like all the other Lemans). I guess it can fulfil the role of the 'fast' LR variant now... right.

Also fun to note: Hydras now come standard with an AA mount, at their base cost of 75 points. SWEET. Manticores can now take all manner of missile they've been listed as having over the last 2 years. Huzzah. Salamander Command vehicles can now COMMAND. WIN! On the other end, Salamander Scouts are only fast on a 4+ now. Lame. So the Hellhound crews just have more reliable turbo boosters? Bah.

I can't understand why the BaneBlade is listed twice, or the fact that a coaxial mount on a vanquisher doesn't do anything, other than:

Quite impressed with the ork stuff though, the flak gun being 1 of the best things so far.
However, the heavy types of new weapons seem a tad odd, allthough i may have to buy some still
