Rotting Sorcerer of Nurgle

Hey all,

I was gonna create an article, however, seeing as my army is not near to completion I figured I'd post a small forums post about it.

Having taken on CSM's as my second army (now my primary army) was a monumental, and rewarding, task. The detail of the models and the fact the story behind the CSM's was somewhat detailed was appealing. The fact I'm a metalhead made Chaos asthetically appealing, with all the spikes and chains. So it was no surprise when I took on the mantle of the chaos Lords and got to work!

In the process of creating my army I stole simular ideas from the Steel Brethern and Iron Warriors to create my own sort of Unique army based on Death Guard and the Sons of Khorne. Being that I'm a very assault oriented player, with a love for powerful weapons, it was only natural. So i dubbed my army the Steel Battalion (got the idea from the old Xbox mech game), but decided to tack in Nurgle because a majority of the army is Nurgle based.

origins of the steel battalion
------------------------------------
The Steel Battalion origins can be tracked to the original Devourer Plague beset upon the worshippers of Nurgle. While trapped in the warp, many SM's succumbed to insanity while under the pain and torture of the Devourer Plague, turning them into sort of "mindless zombies". However, some of these did not die from the original plague, being spit back out into space upon torn and shredded vessels. Many of these ships landed on the planet Kandrus Omega. Eliminating the populus in a matter of weeks, the Plague Marines set up a small fortress that would later be called the Palace of Pestilence. From here the Plage Marines from the original Devourer Plague set out to create a small armada to protect what they had.

The Coming of Fabius Bile
--------------------------------
reknowned alchemist Fabius Bile, one of the heros of the Chaos, stumbled across the planet of Kandrus Omega on his way through the outskirts of the Eye of Terror. Seeing his brethern in such pain and torment sent Fabious into an inspired fit. After injecting many, many of his Brethern with his "tonics" and cures, he realized that instead of dying, infighting, and sometimes devouring one another, the Plagued Marines seemed to either be immune or improve with the effects of his "tonics". He named them the Steel Breathern for their resilience and seeming indestructibility.

The assault on Tarisis Alpha
-----------------------------------
Having been enhanced and partially cured by the passing of Fabious, Nurgle sent the demon prince Hyliphos to assist the Brethern. Seeing the marines in a state of unsettled dispair, Hyliphos guided them to attack the nearby planet of Tarsis Alpha. The war was long, however due to the resiliance and power of the enhanced Brethern, they overcame the Imperial Guard and Sister defense forces in a matter of days.
Seeing the obvious potential and indestructibility Hylipos renamed his marines the Steel Battalion, the hammer of the scourge of nurgle.

Allies
---------
Seeing the power and toughness of the Steel Battalion, nearby warbands began to join the battlions cause of spreading destruction and misery. Many Khorne Berserkers joined their cause; looking to unleash the fury of khornes bloodlust on the unrelenting foes of Chaos. Several squads of Thousand Sons made home on Tarsis, intent on following the Plagued Marines to gather artefacts and tomes left behind by their conquered foes. Even a few lords of Slanesh, the rival to Nurgle, joined with the battalion, seeing not fame, not glory, but the thrill of conquest, the excitement and pleasure of death. occassionally, while passing the areas controlled by the battalion, Fabius Bile, Typhus, or even Abaddon himself could be seen leading the Battlion into battle.

Tactics
---------
The Steel Battalion is a varied bunch, drawing its power from all 4 lords of chaos to fit its various needs. Terminators, Plagued Marines, and Khorne Berserkers are favored by the Battalion. Seeking to draw its foes into close quarters conbat to watch their faces as they are destroyed is the Ultimate pleasure of the warriors. Occassionally lords of Slanesh will join the fray, seeing their brothers obvious lust for close quarters combat.

The Steel Battalion normally does not focus on long range combat as their lord, the Demon Prince Hyliphos, prefers to tear his opponents limb from limb. However occassionally the Battlion will be accompanied by Havocs, a few Obliterators, or even a pair of Vindicators to bolster their Siege effectiveness.

The prefered weapons of the Battalion are Meltas, Power Fists, and Lightning Claws. Melta bombs are always carried by squads as they see transports as an impediment to their ultimate desire; to rend their opponents limb from limb with their bare hands.

As time goes by I will start posting pictures of the Battalion as it nears completion. However, guidelines have been set by what I have done so far;

Plagued Marines - Base painted Goblin Green. Dry brushed with Dark Angel green and Rotten Flesh. Outlined with Chainmail, washed with Black.
Zerkers - Based Red Gore or a mix of chainmail and red gore (shiny pink). Outlined dark brown or tin bitz, with chainmail/boltgun on the chains. Blue/orange/green eyes. Washed brown/black.
Transports/vehicles - Painted in the same colors as the troops it transports!
Slanesh - Based dark purple. Ice blue/chainmail mix for most parts, red and orange for others. Washed Black
Tzeech - Orange/Chainmail mix for highlights. Base colored Teal. washed black
Normal CSM's - Base painted silver or dark green. Highlighted silver (if green) or green (of silver). Liberal use of shining gold and tin bitz for small parts. Washed black (silver) or brown (green)

Hopefully I get some time and I'll paste pics of my partially completed army tomorrow!

"The war was long, however due to the resiliance and power of the enhanced Brethern, they overcame the Imperial Guard and Sister defense forces in a matter of days."

if the war was long...and it only took them a few days to kill all the defense forces, who were they fighting?? or is it just a typo??
