well, i was all happy and proud when i made my first 20 imperial guard with gas masks and gak and i started a nice bold colour scheme of a dark red armour and greyish brown fatigues.

i finished the first model and i felt proud

then it went wrong

be4 you can say ARGH i cant perfecty replicate the greyish brown fatigues like the first one!, i um, well what i just said.
so ive done 2 and they look similarish and i thought i was back on track.
then i did a sargeant.
his fatigues looked gray and not brown

So, does anyone have any tips whatsoever, on how to keep the colour the same.

i am slightly colour blind and i cant see the difference until its dried.

OR should i just make up some fluff why theyre all differently dressed.

OR should i paint camoflage on the fatigues to mask som of the different colours?

Help!!

Oh and for you lucky guys who help,

i got a banshee model who im makin' into a pysker and should i paint her a rich red dress or a brown fatigues.

cos its confusing

And what color should i paint my basilisk?

brown or red?

so as you can see ive screwed up big time......HELP

Can you take some other photos so that the light source doesn't cast shadows over the front, as it obscures them? They look alright, but because of the shadow you can't really see the colours.

I dont see anything than brown on these pics....

But maybe if youre painting the whole squad at once, you could have the same color at every model.
Just choose 1 color, paint the armor of every squad member, let it dry. Switch to the next color and the next "target" and repeat.

Its not a problem if colors vary, at least squads would keep one style and this would be easy to explain per fluff.

It's not a bad thing if the colours don't match per model as it gives the model a little more of personal individual look.

Even in real armies uniforms dont match as soldiers with older uniforms tend to have sun-bleached colours that are quite different from newer/replacement uniforms. Quite alright to have some variance.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

Here's a tip, if you want to have consistent colour across an army, and you're not using basic colours, pre-mix them in an old, washed-out paint pot. I use a 12cc measuring syringe (cheap from your local chemist, or free if you ask your doctor nicely) to measure the exact amounts of colour, then label the pot with those amounts so I know what to mix when I need to make some more.

Also, it's unlikely to be your colour-blindness causing problems - all colours darken when they dry, to a greater or lesser extent - so if you're mixing your brown to match the already dry paint, it will come out even darker when it dries.

If you want to have a consistant color for instance say on the pants? Do the pants of the entire squad in one painting session, then do a different part of the minis on the entire squad at a different time? Thats what I try to do if I get problems

Don't sweat it. Fatigues bleach in the sun and get filthy in the slog. Your IG's look great.

I tried my hand at the IG as well, each batch came out a little different, especially after being washed and weathered. It gave the army an organic, 'in the field' look. I hated it while I was doing it, but when I sat back and looked at my 40+ troopers, it really looked like they'd been the veterans of 40 battles.

Here is another thing write down your mixes and what model it goes with so if you like it you can replicate it and if not you can now know what happens with that mix.

They look fine. Not sure what the bother was.

If you could get a little desk lamp to shine light direclty over your minis, or build a whitebox to take your pictures in, that would help a lot.

ok thanks for the feedback

however, the problem with the mixing colors is that when i mix them, i only have enough paint for one model before it dried up :(

and what colors should my basilisk be?

You could try making yourself a wet palette, that will stop your paints from drying out, or grab an empty paint pot (if you have one) and create a mix, I just purchased a set of 10 plastic 10ml jars for that reason alone

Get a color wheel - it helps.

That and mix in small batches in small pots

The trick here is to get some empty paint pots and the paint you want to mix. Pour the paint in the empty paint pot to the color you want there you have a lot of paint with the same color you then thin that on a pallet and paint from that.

What do you do with your empty paint pots?

I clean mine out and use them for custom paint mixes that I need a lot of (I have a custom tint of blue that I use for windows/lenses and canopies that are not transparent but that I wish to make it look they are "glass".)

You don't have any if you want say the mix that was in the last wd for the termie armor.
You only use 1/2 a pot of each in say a 1:1 ratio so 1/2 a pot of blood red and 1/2 a pot of dark flesh you still have the other 1/2ves in there original pots.
You should also write down the ratio on a sticky label and put it on the side of the pot jic

For a cheep light box get a box line it with white paper have a lamp behind the camera shining on the mini desk lamps are ideal for this.

Empty pots are easy to find get two eye droppers to transfer the paint and write down the amounts as you do it so you don't forget with a color dab to remind you of the final color.

Ya man nice looking but maybe next time you do a mix paint or a custom paint job mix them and put it on paper with a little note on the color and mix inc.. that way you can remake it when ever you want..

10% of something is better than 100% of nothing..
