Anyone fielding shooty dreads?
I ve seen some droppoded melta dreads and some ironclads.
So, where have the shooty ones gone?

Yeah, I've seen quite a few peeps run em actually. Normally with a melta and a las or missile launcher or something. They are actually quite good.

Most competitive Space Marine armies (read: Vulkan lists) include three Dreadnoughts, all with Multi-Melta and Heavy Flamer.

Assault Cannon/Heavy Flamer in Drop Pod is also a good choice for Non-Vulkan lists.

The 6 dread twin linked auto cannon dreads supporting drop troops is a pretty good build. just load up the drop troops with melta weapons for the occational AV 14 and the dreads take care of everything else.

I've been running a 6 dread dual autocannon list. What I've found is I lack AV 14 killy power.
So I've gone down to 4 Dual Autocannons and 2 IC in Pods. This has worked pretty well so far. Let's me put the Melta pretty much right where I want it.

The Ironclad is really terrifying in CC, but so are most dreads with CCWs. The fire support dread isn't 'bad' I guess regular marine players aren't using him as much because of the ridiculously strong Ironclad. And there are other places where you can get lascannons.

I play Plasma Cannon/CCW, TL Lascannon/ML, Siege and twin TL Heavy bolters.
Mostly because i own them, and they look so nice. The next Forgeworld order gets me a Assault cannon/CCW dread ^^.
I like all of them. 2 TLHBs against Tau is just so tasty.

Why oh why would you take twin dual autocannons in a pod over an assault cannon and heavy flamer in a pod?
At the very least, the autocannon dread wouldn't need a pod.

No one said you take Twin Dual Autocannon dreads in pods. they support pod units as in they start on the board. they have long range and dont need to pod in. although I have lists with 2 of my autocannon dreads with pods so I can drop them empty. lets me drop all my troop units on turn 1 the empty pods later.

I don't put them in pods. No reason to. I got 48" range!
Just the IC in pods. Then Melta/HF their plastic butts.

I like operating them in echelon with Ironclads (which is what I did with dreads pre-Ironclad, but that works even better) an Ironclad and an Assault cannon dread can provide valuable flank security for example.

Daemonhunters have to use CC dreads since we don't get any of those cool melee options that you guys get with ironclads and the like.
Of course, that's only if you choose to not just load up on 3 LRs

Yep, no elite dreads for DH. Terminators are great, but we already get a full unit of them as HQ, and you can only field one temple assassin.
Deathcultists suck, Daemonhosts suck(and if you use GK, you can't even use them anyway), and Inquisitors suck.
Our terminators are awesome, but you can't expect them to fill 2 elites and an HQ slot. Or even 3 elites and an HQ slot.

I field my Venerable Dreadnought with Assault Canon and Heavy Flamer. I'm thinking of upgrading him for the Plasma Canon, but we'll see if it's still available in the new codex.

TL autocannon dreads are insanely awesome. Each one can usually pop or tie up a Light tank every turn.
They restrict your opponents movement so much and they are very mobile since they are walkers.
My space marines don't leave home anymore without at least 2 and 3 at 2k+.

I am always underwhelmed with my TL Lascannon/ML dread. I am planning on swapping his ML for a DCCW, and possibly the Lascannon with an autocannon. 1 shot with a Ml is just not worth the points plus giving up melee ability.

For a while I really like the TL-LC/DCCW Dread for a base guardian. He was my solution to assaults on my objective holding heavy weapon squads. I just didn't find him to be worth the points in that role, though. Except one time he creamed a Death Company by himself....

I agree. GW really dropped the ball when they upgrade Cyclone and Typhoon Missile Launchers, but not Dreadnought Missile Launchers. Giving a Dreadnought the option of a Cyclone upgrade for 20pts makes it worth it. Otherwise, not so much, unless you have a Chaos Dreadnought that can upgrade one Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon to a Missile Launcher and add another Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon to make up for the lose of close combat potential. Mind you, I also think that Dreadnoughts should be able to have Jump Packs and come in squadrons, so what do I know?
I find that Venerable Dreadnoughts make the best firepower based Dreadnoughts, despite their cost: the BS5 is just too good to pass up, although you can make do with making sure you take twin-linked, template, or blast weapons on a regular Dreadnought.
So Venerable Dreadnoughts: Multimeltas, Assault Cannons, Missile Launchers, Storm Bolters.
Regular Dreadnoughts: Twin-Linked Autocannons, Twin-Linked Lascannons, Twin-Linked Heavy Bolters, Plasma Cannons, Heavy Flamers
And a Dreadnought with quad-mounted autocannons is just too cool for words. A great deterrent to squadrons of light vehicles, and handy for chewing up transports.

I completely agree Nurglitch. It should be a Cyclone Missle Launcher for those points. I think that was an oversight on the part of the codex writer or something. Having a 2 shot missle launcher as an option would make a shooty Dreadnought a much more viable option.
