My primary army is Dark Eldar, so I love facing:

Vanilla marines, 'Nids, non-mechanized Orks, Land Raiders, Bikes, 5th ed blast weapon rules.

As a 'nids player I love horde armies to face, like gretchen heavy orks

As an Ork player, I LOVE slaughtering Guard! My boyz outclass guardsmen, and Russes ain't so scary once they have a powerklaw in them! Haw Haw Haw!

Necrons. In CC. Zerkers = OWNAGE. Ksons = OWNAGE. Phase Out halfway through my Turn 3 Shooting phase with zerkers before the Monolith hits the field = OWNAGE.

And...Practically anything in CC or any MEQs in shooting. Hehehe armour save this loyalist scum! *Inferno Bolt to the face*

I would have to say SM. They dont seem to like not getting an armor save, now they know how orks feel.

I enjoy fighting space amrines, as they pose a challenge to the flimsy but underestimated eldar.
It does amuse me how many marines the eldar can kil...

That's quite a hard question, because on a board with proper cover, a good mission, balanced points and a skilled opponent then you should not "love" facing anything.

However given that I play Eldar or Space Marines primarily I will have to say that I love playing hoards of anything. Be that Tyranids, Orks, Guardsmen etc. Not because they are any harder to beat but because the stand of the few against the many is something that I struggle to avoid in war games.

So yeah Hoard armies.

Also Dark Eldar, they do roll over and die so very easy. I mean fast yeah but they do die in droves with proper target priority. (Especially with the tau's ability to move around in the Assault face )

I love facing Internet cookie-cutter armies.

Because I've seen them before, I've had plenty of time to think about how my army can beat 'em, and more than half the time the players who bring them aren't as good as they think they are.

Im a MECH Eldar player these days:

I love to fight Imperial Guard, because they have no morale help and tank shock en masse is just awesome!

I also love to fight landraiders, brightlances are great for shooting them down.

Dark Eldar, I love to fight them, watching their raiders explode and shower DE bits all over the place is hysterical!

Actually I also like to play Space marines, believe it or not because they are a solid enemy! Good games usually!

Im a MECH Eldar player these days:

I love to fight Imperial Guard, because they have no morale help and tank shock en masse is just awesome!

Um, where has that come from. Stick Commissar's in a unit and they suddenly become Ld9 Stubborn units with the ability to kill of a Sergeant for a re-roll on the failed leadership.

Then there are numerous special characters that help with Morale. There is the fact that most units are leadership 8 due to the presence of the Sergeant and the difficulty of bumping him/her off.

Finally you can go to town with a Commissar lord and then really watch the whole thing stay fine.

Of course there is also the difficulty in making a 20-30 man unit that is stubborn (commissar) and has 2-3 expendable sergeants take a leadership test in the first place.


Guard actually have decent leadership.

Guard actually have decent leadership.

The Leadership Tests are caused by Tank Shocking Wave Serpents (like he said) and Leadership 8 really isn't all that decent when you need to make a Leadership Test everytime you get Tank Shocked (a lot when playing against Mech Eldar).

Guard actually have decent leadership.

Nobody will do this in reality because it costs too many points. Its better to simply take more squads than upgrade the ones you have. Unless you're doing some tricks with a massive blob of platoon squads or conscripts its not worth it.

How many IG units in the army even have a Commisar, right, like 1? and if it's a big blob, its easy to kill in melee instead.

How about Heavy weapon squads at LD7?
Conscripts?
Ratlings?

All less than 8.

The one or 2 units with commisars aren't the problem. IG morale sucks, compared to ATSKNF, or Fearless, or Hive Mind, or the MOB rule. Other than Tau, they are the worst in the game.

EDIT: Back OT, I really DO like to play IG, also because their armies DO have morale, and they look and feel more like a plausible army! The Mech version of the armies are a lot better, and actually are tougher fights!

Anyone that plays well, tries to win, does not get offended or upset when something goes wrong, is willing to discuss rules, will smile and shake my hand after a game, wants to learn how to play better, and can teach me something.

Okay, well I don't really think we should get side tracked, I do love the way that people respond to a relatively fluid (if not as fluid as some) game system with pure mathematics and theory. It just isn't going to go well.

Your right, to my knowledge the Commissar can only be attached to the Platoon troop squad, though of course a Commissar lord is an Independent character with a Area Radius effect and all the goodies of a normal commissar.

I didn't say they had better leadership that Tyranids or Space Marines. I just said it wasn't quite as simple as you made it out to be.

As to remarks like "I'd love to play you some time." Is that out of genuine interest or a bravado of "I'd beat ten bells out of him"

And again the remark "The one or two units with Commissars aren't a problem" is sheer conjecture. I don't care who you are, if 20 Guardsmen unleash a "First rank, second rank fire." On your basic troop choice and are backed up with a Commissar then your in trouble. Thats oh... 56-58 Las shots and accompanying special weapons shots and then you are really in the situation of charging them or not. If you do charge them then with Stubborn and Ld9 they aren't going ANYWHERE and you just got stuck in a tar pit.... A scoring tar pit.

I'm afraid I wouldn't charge 20 Guardsmen, far easier to just blow them up at range, that of course depends on the circumstances again.

As you can see discussing such an open topic with such an open answer like the one you gave will simply result in both us writing dissertations on the validity of the different Morale systems within the armies in 40K... I somehow doubt we all want to do that.

In reply to IG mech armies... Well I can't comment. My small IG army is an air Cavalry/Swamp fighters type thingy and It's more dictated by fluff than pure gaming ability.

I love to face an opponent who doesn't care about winning or losing just having a good time and I couldn't care less what army they use the game alone would be worth it

As i am a guard i love to face NIDs call me crazy all you want but get a couple of well placed ordnance blasts and your laughing( well until the rest get close that is).

Orks: My horde VS. Imperial Gaurd horde. It's just entertaining for me.

DE: I don't have a favorite, i'm just gonna try to enslave you either way .

If you mean "love" in the predatory sense, I agree. I love to see armies with zero imagination. Knowing an army's strength and gameplan before deployment makes everything else elementary. As a Space Marine player, I like seeing other SM or Chaos armies across from me. I'm one of the few who still believe in the healing power of Plasma, and I know I'm not fighting some pansies or fish who want to shoot and scoot away. Gimme a stand up fight, anyday!

If you mean "love" as in actually appreciate as a gamer and military enthusiast, I agree with all the rest who want to see a good, fair, balanced game with a fun opponent who competes for the table, not for the A$$hat of the Year award.

my favorite army to face is a necron army for some reason even with my lack of startagy its the only army i can beat with orks

I get nothing but grief from Eldar and Dark Eldar players when I field Land Raider Crusaders............I'm guessing you Eldar and Dark Eldar players fight LRCs that do not have blessed Hull?

As a Black Templar player I enjoy playing anything because its a game and I always have fun.

Being a bug & eldar player, I like facing a few. My bugs love to play unfriendly bugs or orks just because having two hordes clash is great fun. They also love to face sisters as it can be quite challenging at times. My eldar love to play against bugs too. They surprisingly have a difficult time with necrons but still usually come out on top.

Probably the best is necrons vs. bugs: The very definition of life & unlife duking it out is always amusing... Fluff wise and game wise.

I like fightin' orkz. Theres lots of them, so you don't run out of targets. They like getting up close and personal and choppy, just like bezerkers/khorne lords do, they require tactics and skill and kunnin' to play/play against. And they're are Fun!

I had my first game against Nids the other day since i only got back into the hobby a month or 2 ago... had a absolute ball and am looking forward to squashing bugs/getting brutalized by a broodlord

I love to play anything but Orks and Necrons. At least around these parts, there's only one build of each of them, so I love playing against any other army.

Since I am running eldar mech right now. I love a footslog list, since I can outmaneuver them and avoid almost all trouble. Especially if those armies have low CC abilities.

Depends on the armie im playing with at the time


With my khornate daemons: anything with power armour works fine for me

With my BA: not too bothered, allthough nids are fun since they never expect marines to throw units into assault with them


Also, ill go with that cookie cutter list thing, soo much fun when someone takes an army simple becuase they have been told it works well lol.

As my horde ork army I love to fight drop pod / deep strike armies.
It makes me happy when they come to me. It saves my boys the hassle of running across the board.

My built army is my space marines and I have only played against Chaos and IG so I have to say I love going against Chaos because It is a challenge

My 'Deathwing' appreciates an easy victory sometimes. This most often happens against enemies that suffer when engaged in hand-to-hand combat, after their vehicle shelters have been destroyed - Tau, Imperial Guard, Necrons.

Though they haven't had much real-life battlefield experience yet, it seems my Imperial Guard like to face off against any force that mixes threats, and especially those who include footslogging, weak troops. That way, the Guard get to use all of their guns. Enemies such as Orks, Tyranids, and sometimes Tau are good examples.
