hey all, I've been playing 40k for the last 5 months or so and have decided recently that my next army will be a Fantasy army.

Now in 40k I play Tyranids and Chaos. I am a very aggressive, assaulty style player, and I really hate shooting. I love to rush in and get in peoples faces, stomping em to the ground!

The main suggestion I need is what kinda army fits my playstyle in Fantasy? I wanna go for a "good" army, as in 40k I basically play completely evil lol.

Thanks!

In the Webway.

If you dont like shooting and like evil tough units with horribly scary and menacing characters. Go for warriors of chaos, the only shooty things are a cannon and you can give some guys throwing axes but thats it. i dont play them but ive faced them and they are really scary and mean. That would definetly suit your playstile i think.

thing is they're evil, I wanna try for a "good guy" army. I was looking at High elves and Wood Elves. I wouldn't mind a shooty army, preferably one with a lotta magic users I like wizards!

Outflanking

High elves sound like a good choice then. Strong army (somewhere in the area of 4th-6th most powerful army), Strong Magic, and Repeater Bolt throwers in shooting. Oh, and the Star Dragon.

Q: What do you call a Dinosaur Handpuppet?

A: A Maniraptor

Hmm.. different to what you said in the first post but after what you said it seems HE is the obvious choice. They do have powerful wizards and dragons. They also have very good cavalry apparently, i nearly collected them myself it was between DE and HE, but then they re-released the DE codex so i went with them. Ive faced them before and although ive never lost to a HE army. They do have some powerful units that can cause a lot of pain. Even the humble spearmen fight in 3 ranks, 3! thats a lot of attacks! Finally they can take 1 additional special choice than any other army making a powerful army. If you havent red the WHFB rulebook you may not know what those things mean, but theyre all good. Id really say that DE fit your bill better but theyre not exactly nice.

I would actually suggest Wood Elves

With Wood Elves, you technically control the entire battlefield (If you use forests) and although your elves are not made for protracted combats, if you line things up correctly, any wood elf charge can be devastating.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I would suggest to avoid Ogre Kingdoms. They are slow, clunky and get outflanked easily. I am by no means a great player. I'm probably around .500, or even a shade lower, but everytime I play against OK I win without any problems. Elves on the other hand...

Brettonians are a fast charging army too, but if you don't get the charge off, you're hooped. Their infantry isn't that great either.

An Empire Knight heavy army could be fun, but you'll need the guns and cannons to wear down the big enemy infantry blocks and for monsters and such.

Although the above are alternatives, I think that HE might be what you are looking for too. In addition to what Eldar Own said, they also always hit first in a combat (well, 99% of the time Chariot Impact hits for example). They have a lot of units that are hard hitting and have the bonus of being "Stubborn" or "Terror causing". They also have access to flyers, which not all armies have and are great for march blocking. Their biggest downfall is universal T3. If your opponent hits you with something hard and you blow the combat, your guys will be manhandled bigtime.

Well the general consensus seems to be HE. The combination of magic, monsters, and some good CC seems to be perfect. I don't know all the rules and things with charging, blocking, etc. (I know WHFB is more complicated, but makes far more sense than 40k) but from what everyone says it seems good And T3 isn't too bad, Eldar seem to do just fine in 40k! lol

Forever alone

Yeah, T3 in WHFB is considered 'average' as opposed to T4 in 40k. Only big guys like Lords and Chaos Warriors have T4. T5/6 is very rare on anything smaller than a troll, giant or dragon.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

From what you say you want, I'd avoid WE, and HE do sound like they'd suit. They are a bit 'reactive' though, you do well letting people come at you.
Whilst they are currently a little one dimensional, I would suggest Brettonians. They're the ultimate 'in yer face' army and are amongst the best looking lines (imo). It won't be a million years 'til they get new toys either.

O H I am in the Webway...

Yeah, high elves can be VERY agressive and they are dang fast with their units and ASF on Swordsmen of Hoeth and White Lions and Pheonix Guard is just amazing. Their spellcasting is also amazing and really brings a lot to the table.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

I went and got the codex last week. AZround mid-oct I plan on buying the army box (the 1500 point army) to start out and begin flushing out my army with a couple of Sun Dragon mounted Dragon Mages and some more chariots probably.

Thanks for all the help

Didn't GW discontinue all battalions and army boxes? I'm sure there would still be a few sitting around, but I wouldn't wait too long on that.

This box has been chilling at the shop for a WHILE. WHFB isn't as big as 40k here, thankfully.

Doesn't seem like they got rid of the HE army box yet, which is good considering what a great deal it is.

I would go with high elves, for just plain dragon fun. Plenty of cavalry and chariots too, not to mention the magic.
