Moved back to the idea of a pure GK army now, simply for the great models and the low model count needed.
Are land raiders really needed? or is it something 3 las dreads can take care of instead? (dont like the LR models)
Also, has anyone got any rough lists they can throw here please? looking for a semi mobile list with some good options, termies are something i do want in the army.
Also, im tempted to use the hector rex model for a GM, any thoughts or ideas please?

Well, pure GK....as if this is not hard enough you really are thinking about playing those without any LR ?
How are you protecting your very costly standards then?
How are you getting heavy weapons on the field that last long enough to fire them?
I dont think that you really can play a pure GK army in these days without LR in games with 750p. and up, sorry.

This might more what you are thinking about, no LR and a little dependant on the support of the Emperor himself...
But all in all I really like the Idea of a pure GK army, dont get me wrong.
There is nothing out there that looks better on the gaming table...

No land raiders = quick to die GK army. Dreads don't cut the mustard in games 1000pts and above...I feel GK's don't come into their own until the 2000pt mark. Yeah you can field 5 land raiders and a ton of cheap troop choices and win easily but who wants that? GK's is about needing to rely on tactics which makes them so fun to play...

The GK are really difficult to play, so don't expect to do very well if you're going to play competitively. Land Raiders are a necessity, because (IMHO,) despite my undying love for them, their codex was very badly written. They're not the ultimate badasses they should be, but expensive as hell MEQs without Rhinos and heavy guns. I'd reccomend cramming as many Terminators as you can into the list, as well as as many Land Raiders as possible. The regular PAGK aren't very good at what they're supposed to do (they're not even good fodder) so take as few as necessary; not to say that you should only take two squads, but know when enough's enough with these guys. (Hell, not even in the fan art and concepts are there very many PAGKs, they're mostly termies.... lol)
But Termies are their strong point. I'd take as many as possible.

He was asking about a pure "Grey Knight" army. Imperial Guard and stormtroopers do not qualify the army "he" is interested in making. So yeah if you want to just play Daemonhunters, then run your list. Yet he wants to play a pure "Grey Knights" army...Therefore, my army qualifies and is about as good as it'll get playing pure.

Well, the thing was: GK's need some ideas. And that before buying an expensive army that looks nice, but is not effective enough.
Pure GK is definitely a nice army when playing against some of ur buddies for fun and not loosing every single game.
Just taking the codex though you dont have an underpowered army, you just have some bad troop choices in any compeditve mode that is played.
This is why i postet the LR list with guard and stormtroopers up in there. There is no way you can beat that with a pure GK list, shrouding and all....
It is like playing space wolves without the new codex, there is better stuff out there...
What i dont get in ur pure GK list is the searchlight for the LR's. A waste of points for almost no effect. And then you are running them with no dozer blades?
I would skip the GM for Stern, he is cheaper and comes with some nice add ons that are expensive choices for ur force leader.
at least one Crusader would be my choice too, so you have the choice of either dropping ur Termis or sending them in with the Crusader. While dropping them mann the Crusader with the Squad GK with the Incinerator

2 points left over....searchlights 1pt each. Would you just not use the 2pts??????
and ya you can always drop the HQ to another cheaper figure.
He also seems to not want to run a tourney worthy army, hence wanting to play pure to begin with.
As I stated already, magnetize the weapons on the LR's so you can swap out depending on what type of army you are facing.

Since the LR variant was not wanted I guess this is more like it.
For me the GK standard troops are the weakest part in the army, so maximise the strongest.
That would be the termis, utilizing the advantage of hell of a lot more powerweapons than ur opponent can field. Thunderhammers for the vehicle takedowns and thats it.
Playable, but way better with some LR support...

I'm a big fan of the deep striking squad with incinerators. Only one time did they fail me and that was in an outrider tourny using 3rd ed rules and a bad scatter.
