What?

I'm going to assume the thread was suppose to be about Space Marine Balance concepts...

I would suggest a better balance for marines would be to make the special characters mutually exclusive and 0-1 in army lists.

Possibly furthermore, that each should have a chapter specific force organization pre requisite and or limit as well.

heck i hate marines cuz everyone and theirs grots have them but i would gladly accept if they are reduced in points cost if their was a rule that the only way to play a marine army is if it is completely painted, based WYSIWYG, and the army list is clearly written with easy to see point cost. then well see how many marine players there will be

Space marines are GW fanboys, there the easist army to play, assemble and paint.

If you keep on getting beaten by marines, post your army list on Dakka and people will give you some help.

There are alot of annoying marine builds out there but there not auto-win, so stop blaming your enemies army and get better.

Marine players are common, but the fact is, the vast majority of marines players out there really, really suck.

like, you can table them in 3-4 turns easy with pretty much any army.

"oh, vanguard rock! i'll take 10 with jump packs with power swords"

"its a great idea to take a 10 man deepstriking terminator unit! I only have AOBR, so they have no special weapons, but they still are probably good!"

"deepstriking tactical squads in drop pods is a great idea! i'll just put them right next to your land raider, and hope my single melta shot kills it!"

if you walking into a GW store and counted all the players and all the armies you would notice that there are many, many space marine players... now if you looked at the professionals, you would notice that many, many of then do not play space marines, or they have built a bloody brilliant, nicely painted and customised army...

space marines is the starting army, they are good at all combat roles and are easy to play... which is why, i think, GW sells them big. they are in the starter packs (Blackreach), and they are everywhere...

once a player knows how to play this game, they usually find that there is more fun in another army, wether it is eldar, tau or orks... this is because they require more tactical brilliance, they are harder to paint, and assemble and they are bloody brilliant to customize..... for example i jsut glued my autarch on dragon together last night and its bloody brilliant...

he's hungry, hungry for genetically moded humans

There are nearly as many Ork players as there are space marine now.

Why do you hate them, cause there are more marines players then everyone else?

Cause of Ultrasmurfs? I dont see a valid reason to hate them.

It doesnt mean you post a stupid homebrew rule cause you dont like them.

I reckon Lord Loss he doesnt really know what 2 change about them, he just doesnt like them. Although the is only IMHO

even so Space Marines are COOL! true they may not be the most competitively playable army but they are the most flexible and customisable, and in my opinion can have the most character...

I personally dont think their rules or anything need changing (they wouldve done that in the new codex if it was the case), theyre an easy to use army for a newbie but can be deadly in the hands of a pro - hence, they are balanced...

The problem is Space Marines aren't really popular because of their power, their popular because:

A. They're super duper unstoppable human soldiers

B. They're easy to paint

C. They're cheap

D. They're in the starter sets

E. They have most of the books and fluff written about them

F. There are five different codices for them

G. There are dozens of well-developed official chapters, but there's a lot of room to make custom chapters as well

H. They're mostly plastic

I. They're always going to be updated regularly

J. They're never going to be a truly bottom-tier army (this ties in with the previous)

K. They're one of the armies that's most unique to the universe

L. They're advertised for far more than any other army

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I think Marines are fairly balanced as they are, and I think they are great to play with. I am quickly learning to love Orks and Necs though too....

RE: Memoir of a Vetneran Marine Player

So I read some of this topic, but i didnt see any proposed rules --- am i blind???

Any way i Don't know why people hate marines, they're not the best and they don't have everything... though i realise that everyman and his dog has got some.
When I was young I chose them for the look of the bikers and went on to collect 8000 points of the suckers but only 4 bikes.

*** I would gladly play WYSIWYG if I could get my hands on models with all the upgrades and I almost always have a properly written list, but then again in Australia we dont need to see each others lists before a battle. We're trustworthy (Except this one guy I met who was the biggest damn crappy lying cheat Ive ever met!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he sucked as a player)

Note: I havent won a game in a long time, - despite loving 40000 I suck at it and have bad luck.

I love marines. They look awesome and arent that easy to paint compared to others if you know what you are doing --- I personally hate the large flat areas!!!

Hope this isnt to random for this topic.

nup no siggy for you my freind.

Hey, hey! Don't bash 13 year olds, we have just as much right as you do to be in this Hobby. Not all of us just have it paid for us by our parents! .

Going back on topic, the only real changes I'd like to see is Vulkan either toned down or made more expensive, and Honour guard made more expensive points-wise (Mainly for Fluff reasons, at the moment they're the same price as command squads which never seemed right in my eyes )

The OP removed them, but they were something stupid like "All Space marines within 12" of a Witch hunter on a 4+ they start screwing"

Something like that.

Anecdotal evidence != Real evidence
Most of the young kids at my FLGS play chaos and IG. Space marine players are the plurality, but not the majority, and are all over the age of 16. The best painter/player at my FLGS plays imperial fists.
