Subject: A vehicle is immobilized and assaulted, auto hits?

Sorry for the nOOb questions, but I have not played in a few months and I am a bit rusty. It's crazy how fast the rules get foggy if you don't play.
Anyway, here is the scenario:
A speeder moved 12" then is immobilized by my shooting. I then assault it that turn. My opponent thinks that it should be hit on 6's since it moved 12" in its turn, I thought that since it was immobilized it would be automaitically hit.
The chart in the rulebook is a bit contradicotry saying that both cases are correct and thus, contradict one another.
I have always played it that immobilization takes effect immediately. Am I wrong? And if so, please give me a page or FAQ reference.
Thanks a ton.

Look at the tense. If it didn't move in the preceding turn OR if it IS Immobilized, you hit automatically. Automatically Appended Next Post: A couple of previous discussions:

Just so I dont have to say "Gwar is right," I'm going to say Mannahnin is right. according to the chart on page 67 in the BRB, it states that:
Attacking a vehicle that is immobilised or was stationary in its previous turn is an automatic hit.
This means that two automatically hit, one of two things must occur. One, the attacking vehicle must not have moved its previous turn, OR two, the vehicle is imobilized. If one (or both) of these conditions are met, then the vehicle is auto hit.
Edit: And dont worry about it being a noob question... At least you wernt the guy who asked about the MotF's conversion beamer worked... oh wait... that was me.. DOH!!
Edit 2: Making this an edit so it doesnt appear that I am padding my post count, but just to be nice to Gwar, I'll say that Gwar is right about Mannahnin being right

Big meanie. But yes, Mannahnin is 101% Correct. The easiest way is to think of it as needing both a 4+/6 to hit and being hit automatically. You still hit automatically, so the dice roll is moot

That's one way to look at it too. That the attacking model is eligible to hit under either/both conditions. On a 4+ AND automatically.
I very much like the point Lordhat made in the previous thread:
Lordhat wrote:What hasn't been stated: If a vehicle that moved and subsequently immobilized is NOT hit automatically, then even stating immobilized in the rule is redundant:
Rhino moves 6" and gets immobilized, Graphics' group plays that models require 4+ to hit it in the next assault phase. The next turn the vehicle cannot move and is hit automatically. Immobilized has absolutely no bearing in this situation, as the vehicle already meets the 'did not move' criteria, and the group has ignored the immobilized criteria in the turn it DID move.
If this was the way the rules were intended to work, why would they even give immobilized as a criteria?

The point of contention I've seen brought up is if a TAC squad that has a Sarge with a PF assaults a vehicle. The squad at IN 4 is lucky enough to immobilize it then the IN 1 PF gets to attack. Guessing he hits automatically since the vehicle is now immobilized when it is his turn to swing.

Quick clarifier: So if my trukk boyz assault a rhino and the my boyz are able to immobilize the rhino, does my Nob with the PK hit automatically?
I assume by the rules as stated above, it is, but I just wanted to confirm.
Thanks

Yes
At each I step you work out what you need to hit the vehicle, so you reassess the "IS it immobilised?" part. If, by the time your PK nob gets to hit, the vehicle IS immobilised you hit automatically.
With hitting rear AV in cc always now this is more likely to happen, as so many vehicles are AV10 on the rear.
