Hi guys,
I've decide to blog the painting of my Imperial Fists army. Ive set myself a deadline of christmas ('09 obviously) to finish but ive a lot to do and life has a tendency to get in the way, but im gonna give it my best shot anyway.

So far i've painted a Rhino and a tactical squad (shown below)

And inside

Heres the tactical squad

The icon on his right shoulder pad is his personal heraldry. (you can see it better on the front of the rhino). Every vet in my army will have personal heraldry.

I also have another tactical squad with rhino, a land raider, a vindicator, a whirlwind, lysander, 5 sternguard, 5 vanguard, 2 5-man devvy squads, 3 5-man Scout squads, a company commander with command squad, a master of forge with converted conversion beamer (lol ) and a librarian.

And finally, some PIP on the scouts

More to come, stay tuned!!

wait in the space marine codex it says that you can take ONE of the following:
hunterkillermissile?pts
andso on but on your rhino you have 2 pintle weapons? is there like a special rule or something

-5000 pts
-1000 pts
valkyrie painted to fit ultramarines
some amount of points havent had time to calculate it

It comes with a storm bolter, and then says:

May take any of the following:
- a storm bolter +10 pts
- a hunter-killer missile + 10 pts
- a dozer blade + 5 pts
- extra armour + 15 pts

hence, the rhino has two storm bolters and a hunter-killer

Nice weathering on the Rhino.
Now I have a mandatory question I ask all Imperial Fists collectors, what colours did you use for the yellow?

I thought that was coming!!

It may seem a convoluted method but here it is.

1. Undercoat black
2. Basecoat iyanden darksun, doen't have to be neat or cover fully
3. Basecoat Vomit Brown, the iyanden gives the brown a smoother coat
4. Wash into recesses Ogryn Flesh
5. Re-apply Iyanden, leaving wash showing through
6. Highlight 50/50 Iyanden/Bleached Bone

Stopping point for the night:

Weathering is great!! The yellow is very nice too. Congrats on a very nice looking force. I think the freehand symbols are probably the area that could use a little more attention - I'd just paint white circles and use decals!

Very nice yellow work! Toughest colour there is (I think its tougher to paint than white), and this is a fine example.

I also think the freehand symbols could be neater, but I aslo understand how hard they are!

Looks really good! As a Fist player, I know how hard it is to get that yellow right, but you're doing a great job. The weathering on the tank looks great!

Nothing worth winning ever came easy.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys.

The yellow took a while of trying various techniques but its just about there now.

Also, i know the freehand symbols aren't the best (i may go and tidy a few up after seeing the pictures) but for me i think theres much more charm in freehand, and the only way to improve is to practice!
Hopefully, i'll be able to do them all like the large freehand on the rhino, but well see.

Anyone got any ideas on some jungle camo for my scouts and Telion's cloaks? I was thinking something off Rainbow Six Vegas 2 but let me know what you think!

More updates tonight if all goes well.

Nice reds on the commanders cloak and nice models as well.

As for the camo, the pics are a bit blurry to really choose a suitable one. I have seen jungle camo done with various green shades from bright to really dark, so that might ork for you.

1. I think you should use the 3rd camo you put up.

2. If you are having some trouble getting the chapter symbol just right, use a piece of paper (or an unpainted tank roof) and paint it on there until, as they say, practice makes perfect.

3. Really good job so far. (I need to do the same deadline thing with my Tyranid army)

Can I suggest none of the above I reckon a Leopard/Cheetah style pattern would be utterly cool and fit well with the Imperial Fist look! The weathering on the tank is awesome.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Were you thinking a copy of leopard/ cheetah skin or just the pattern?

Tim the Biovore wrote: 1. I think you should use the 3rd camo you put up.

I was thinking that meself. i tried it on telion and it looks pretty good, just needs some refining.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Unfortunately, the camera has been taken on holiday for a week, so i cant take any more pictures until saturday.

So, more pics in a week, im hoping to finish telion, the command squad, the commander and maybe a devvy squad by then.

Cheers,
Vitruvian

also, i would go with the 3rd camo pattern.

the models look great, a nice solid scheme so far, and credit for going for one of the most annoying chapters to paint

Gretar, if you just want a little fluffy IF army, get yourself some Terminators, maybe a Venerable Dreadnought, some Devestators etc. I play IF myself, I've got about 1000 pts so far, the AoBR stuff, some snipers and a Vindicator.

For the paintjob (I'm not disagreeing with anyone here) I like to speedpaint, for a very similar result, I go for a chaos black primer, iyanden darksun basecoat and a golden yellow overbrush. I dont wash because I prefer my fists to have their armour nice and bright and clean (just a personal choice).

Very nice work you've done though Vertruvian! I particularly like the Captain's cloak.

It's because I have mental problems!!!!!!!!!

Jungle theme would be good. I've seen way too many "barren wasteland" marine bases in my life.

why thankyou sir, although i am weathering the marines, chipping etc ala Grey_Death.

gretar wrote:what kind of list would you recommend ?

thankyou. As for the fluff, Imperial Fists are specialist siege-breakers so anything that fits the bill. Lysander, TH/SS termies, Vindicators, ironclads, devvies, tactical marines, whirlwinds, thunderfires, master of the forge, land raiders (any variant, helios would be apt though). Hope that helps, they follow the Codex Astartes rigidly after going on a big crusade so any list would be fluffy with a slight tendency towards siege weapons.

Also, nice camo technique.

They are indeed from vegas (what a game!), i was leaning towards no. 3 as well, i think its the german jungle camo if you want a better look.

Well, you've got to set yourself a challenge, eh!!

ultramarinelord wrote:Very nice work you've done though Vertruvian! I particularly like the Captain's cloak.

Thankyou very much. the cloak was learnt from a Master of the Ravenwing Painting Masterclas in a previous White Dwarf. Since i read that article its the only way i paint red cloaks. (i believe its Anja Wettergren's technique). Also its Vitruvian, get it right, sheesh.

I bet you do!! lol. I know what you meen about the wasteland. My daemons have an ash waste theme (black, drybrushed codex grey, drybrushed fortress grey) and its looks so boring.
