Okay okay, calm down.

Heres how i did it, (its also in white dwarf 328, in the sammael masterclass).

Before i start, make sure you thin the paints and apply several coats for each stage.

1. Basecoat scab red.
2. Apply a 90/10 scab red/ chaos black mix into the crevices.
3. I like to neaten up the shade, making sure its only in the deepest recesses, with scab red.
4. highlight 50/50 scab red/ blood red, leave some scab red showing.
5. highlight blood red, again leave previous layer showing.

I stopped here but you can also do 3 more stages to get that awesome look.

6. highlight 50/50 blood red/blazing orange
7. highlight blazing orange
8. highlight 50/50 blazing orange/elf flesh

There should only be the blazing orange/elf flesh on the most extreme edges (eg. edge of cloak and raised areas).

Also, wooo page 2!!!!

Thanking you. As said before, no more pics till saturday as cameras unavailable. But i have now nearly finished the command squad. Yay!!

Im also thinking of making a chapter master and ten honour guard. I want to use the image from the chapter master section of the Space Marine Codex, that fist dude looks awesome, as my Chap master.

Anyone got any good ideas for the honour guard??

Really nice mud splatter on the tank and the commander is looking awesome, reminds me of my Master Marchus (in my siggy) I really should make a more impressive model XD

Anyway, I've digressed a bit, great job!

Thankyou ziggy.

@gretar: I was thinking of just buying a tactical squad and doing artificer armour and weapons with plasticard.

What you guys think to these drawings of weapons?

HONOUR GUARD WEPONS - two handed swords, halberds and a falx courtesy of the great migsula

CHAPTER MASTER

This is the image i will be basing him on. I will attempt to do the armour the same, he has two TH and an auxiliary grenade launcher.

Here are some weapon ideas. Im not sure about the double-ended hammer but its cool in theory!

Let me know what you think the best weapons to use would be. ATM im thinking two marines with halberd, cloak and storm shield (not in rules but would look cool) ala custodian guard [in a guarding stance, possibly guarding standard bearer], 2 two-handed swords, 4 with a mix of power swords/ axes/ maces/ falx. Then a standard bearer with big standard and sword and i still need ideas for the chapter champion (got any?). The standard and two guards would be static, with the other 6 honour guard, chapter champion and chapter master much more fluid.

Let me know what you all think!!

Some good ideas here. I don't know if making the 'double edged' TH would work well or look really good... I think the picture you're basing your idea off might be a better bet.

You could do the chapter champion appearing as if he's waiting for the next challenger, almost in a Ken Dryden-esque kind of way:

Just trade out the stick for a long, two-handed sword, and add power armour!

If you were looking for a pose that's more dynamic, I'll have to think about it. But the standing with the sword in the ground was my first thought.

That's actually a really good idea he could have the two halberd guys as a personal guard! I was also thinking of doing a chapter champion striding forward about to unsheathe two samurai swords, one of each hip, but i dont think i would be able to execute it properly.

It might be tough to get the dynamics right for it... but I think the idea of samurai swords has some promise. What about him reaching to unsheath them from behind his shoulders? Maybe something that's mid-pull from the scabbard...

Yay, mother has returned from holiday so i have the camera back!!

Updates, updates for all i say!

Firstly here is some terrain that i painted for my local gaming group, as is if i dont do enough for them already! Its just the stuff from Battle For Maccrage that ive had lying unpainted in a box for ages.

Ive just started my 2nd year at 6th form college and life has been pretty hectic ( life, why i oughta....) so i havent managed to get as much painting done as i would've liked. However, i finally finished Telion, and painted 4 of the command vets (commander is so nearly finished theres no point putting up a PIP).

I thought you might like to see an army shot, so here it is.

And my ADD-gamer side has kicked in as ive just started to scratchbuild something rather large and very tasty. Can you guess what it is?!!!

Ps. ive got a few models to strip. Does anyone know a good stripper for plastic and metal that i can get in the UK? Cheers.

you're stuff looks rather good. I know how hard it is to get a nice, smooth yellow, and you've pulled it off quite nicely, well done!

Break fluid works well with both metal AND plastic I've found. Just leave the models sitting in it for 3-4 (sometimes 5 or 6 if youre unlucky) days and scrub well with a wire brush afterwords. Its worked for me so far.

Your mud and paint chips are fantastic, keep it up.

Ive found that you can use a product called Simple Green as a stripper on anything! (not sure if you can get it in the UK though)

But brake fluid is another good choice.

ive also used acetone free nail polish remover- it removes the paint fast, but ya gotta keep an eye on plastic in it. (I left one in and it melted over an hour <.< ) But 5-6 minutes and a toothbrush later and it worked well.

Meanwhile, your stuff looks great! Well done Fists!

Super Clean should be available in any of your car parts shops, or if you're desperate superkleendirect.com.

It works like a charm, and I bet its marketed under a different name in the UK.

Thanks for the replies and kind words!!

I think ill try looking for super clean and if that fails ill go with the brake fluid.

Meanwhile, more terrain for the club, a hill

And with a Rhino for a nice little picture, awww.

And i finished the commander, here he is in all his glory.

Things are really coming together. Keep it up!

I'd say if you can't find the Simple Green, try ACETONE FREE nail-polish remover. I've used it, and it works wonders. Leave it in for 3-4 minutes, and it comes off with an old toothbrush super-easy. And it's reuseable - just dump it back into its original container.

Yeah, i liked it too, thought it was nice and simple but looks great.

On a painting note its slowly continuing, no pics , but things have come to a stand still due to my local gaming club starting a blood bowl league. This meant ive been frantically painting and converting a norse team. I promise ill put more up soon.

i love your Fists especially the weathering on the models. Also when i strip models i just get those nail polish remover wipes, i was amazed at how well they worked. You can get like a pack of 100 for 99p at your local crappy cheap store

I find brake fluid working better ..

Brake fluid + jar and models + 6 hours + some toothbrush strokes and your all set for painting !
