So this is 3rd Ed. Space Hulk, here is my question. I've been given an opportunity to get ahold of an older version. According to BoardGameGeek 1st ed. came out in 89 along with some expansions shortly after. I've seen .pdfs of both 1st and 2nd ed rules and there's a fair difference; when did 2nd ed come out? Did it come as a stand alone box game or what? The guy who has the box he wants to sell doesn't even know the difference he bought it from a gamestore liquidation years ago and he lives in another city so I'm trying to figure out which version I'm getting if there are multiple versions of the box game or if it's just a different set of rules at some point put out by GW. Any help please?

2nd Ed if memory serves would be around 1995ish?

I remember because I was shown bits about it in GCSE Maths. Almost certainly 1995.

I'd not invest myself. Current Space Hulk is great, and after Deathwing, things got a bit ropey Hulk wise. And 2nd Edition just isn't that great.

Agreed. I only bought it for the figures. I think I still have the rulebook (and the 1st edition one) somewhere.

1996 according to WD 357 (spacehulk issue).

I still have both of my tile sets from those two earlier editions (and metal terminators from post 1st ed).

I lost my genies in 1995 when moving house, though (from 1st ed+expansions) and gave the 2nd ed minis to a mate who wanted them.

I've got digital copies of both sets of rooms, corridors and all counters, too.
