Alrightie! Now I'm going to show you how I make my army's modified lasguns.

THE TOOLS
-Clippers
-Craft knife
-Glue
-A small file, preferably square
-Pin Vice (hobby drill, whatever you want to call it)
-Hobby saw w/fine toothed blade
-Your guardsman all ready to go
-A handheld single hole paper punch
-.04" sheet styrene

STEP 1
Punch out two disks from the sheet styrene. Take your pin vice and bore a shallow dip in both disks.

STEP 2
Glue the two disks together with the dips facing out.

STEP 3
Take the lasgun, clip off the magazine and cut two notches on the magazine well that are far enough apart so as to make a slot big enough for your drum magazine.

STEP 4
Using the hobby saw, cut two parallel lines about halfway into the lasgun where you just made the notches. Cut out the peg you just created with the craft knife, and file the new magazine well smooth.

STEP 5
Using the craft knife, cut off the lasgun's flash suppressor and bayonet lug. If you want, use your pin vice to drill out the barrel. Glue your drum magazine into the well.

STEP 6
Glue the lasgun arm on to your guardsman first. Let it dry, then test fit the other arm. The drum is so big, it often gets in the way of the other arm, necessitating the filing of a notch on the arm. Once you file the notch, glue the arm on.

COMPLETION
Whammy! You now have a guardsman with a totally sweet stubbed lasgun with a drum magazine. It doesn't take all that long really. It only about doubles the construction time of a guardsman. If you have any issues or concerns or want me to clarify something, please say so.
Nota Bene:You don't have to use .04" styrene and punch 2 disks. If you have a really heavy duty means of punching out a disk and can use thicker sheet, then by all means do so and save yourself the extra steps. I only do it because my punch is pretty wimpy.

Sorry pics wouldn't post.

I don't know that I will be using this for guardsmen, but those mafia based delaques would absolutely benefit from this.

Pics would be nice, but hell I understood most of it.

Looks good, but having drum mags on a laser weapon just looks...well odd.

Yeah...considering that the lasgun doesn't have actual shots in the magazine, and it's just a power pack, it doesn't make much sense to me. But, each to his/her own.

I like it. The idea that lasguns are battery powered notwithstanding, its a nice little departure from the norm. Easy and gives your army a unique touch that seperates it from all the other cookie cutter IG armies out there.

actually i would presume its intended to be a hell gun like the storm troopers used at one point or other .

It might look awesome. I'd like to see it, I think.

No reason a power cell can't be shaped like a drum, anymore then it needs to be shaped like a modern ammo clip.

As a matter of fact, you know what would be an awesome mod? A banana clip that was full of Duracells instead of bullets.

I agree, I don't like it either. Not trying to be hostile here, sorry.

to me it reminds me of the laser RCW in fallout new vegas... that was never strange for me but i can see your point

That's an excellent parallel, I actually thought those were pretty funny, because they so obviously resemble a Thompson SMG.

You're completely right!

There's another thread on video game inspired conversions, that I was in, and having this pointed out, it has changed my mind somewhat. While I think a drum mag on an energy weapon is a little silly, I think the inspired by look for the laser RCW is actually pretty cool. In fact IG converted like this, to look like the scavenger gangers, from fallout would be pretty hot! or make awesome chaos rebels!

Hmm! Neat!

No reason why you couldn't use this idea to make autoguns though - where a barrel mag would make perfect sense. I think it's a great idea!
