Anyone ever tried using regular acrylic paints for models? like the paint that comes in tubes that you get at art stores? I'm going to be drybrushing my realm of battle board and my little citadel paint pots don't have enough paint in em, so I thought maybe a great big tube of regular acrylic paint might work better? Or would it just be too thick and not good for drybrushing?

i usually use that kind of colors for my gaming terrain.

I drybrush that colors with a very large brush and I

have not seen any difference.

I've used regular craft paints for all of my models. They look the same as all of the guys I play with. Most of them comment on how great the models look too. You can pick up small bottles for less than a dollar. A large bottle would end up being about $4 or so. For dry brushing on small models these work well. YMMV on larger areas though. My tanks usually take quite a few coats in order to fully cover them.

I hate to admit it... but I buy the little kids set... with the 8 colors all connected in a strip. Although I will go pick up special colors I need from time to time...

For the longest time, I never had any Citadel yellow, so whenever I needed to mix yellow into any color (mostly for highlighting red), I would use my acrylics. Cadmium Yellow was my most frequently-used color.

The thicker the better for drybrushing.

If you want to thin 'heavy body' acrylics (the ones that come in a tube) you need media such as multi-purpose acrylic polymer. It's a white liquid which dries colourless. You mix it with any acrylic colour and thin with water/flo aid.

I use a line of acrylics from Hobby Lobby called Folk Art. I get 59mL for $1.10. The standard GW pots are 12mL and cost you $4.50.

I most definitely do not have a trained eye, but the pigment to filler ratio within these paints seems OK to me.

The Folk Art paints are pretty good. I have only one of them but it's a bleached bone color and works really well. Oh and it's 59ml so I'm not running out of it anytime soon, haha.

I saw a video online of someone using Pledge Future Shine as a mixing agent and decided to try it. It has worked well for me. I am a horrible painter, but it provided me the thinning I needed and dries kind of glossy; which is a look I like. One drop of paint to 4 or 5 drops of floor wax.
