Parachuting Para-Commando
|
Hi
I'm trying to get a new Imperial Guard army started. I used to play guard back in 2nd ed as my first army. Now with the release of the new Guard codex and the beautiful valkyrie kit it is time to start building a new guard army again.
I'm a sporadic painter at the best so I hope a painting blog can help me to be a bit more consistent in my painting schedule. The idea is that the army will be a fully mechanized army when it's finished some time in the far distant future. I'm tying to go for a red army steppe theme for the army.
So here are my first few figures all opinions and criticism are appreciated. Oh and I would really be grateful if I could some name suggestions for the regiment my mind is blank atm.
This is what I'm intending to work on next.

Thanks for the kind comments. The heads are from Pig-Iron http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/ they are really good sculpts and fits the Cadian figures perfectly.

Ryan's World?
Ramius's Landing?
Uralia?
Also I'd be tempted to google/wikipedia Soviet Submarine and Port names as well as the characters from Red October! Another option is to take darts and through at a map of Russia see what names come out!
The heads look great and I love the Cammo patterns!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Hello again, small update I'm getting the Hq figures ready for priming today.
Thanks again for the comments feedback is always appreciated.
Lunahound I'm painting the lenses the same way you normally paint gemstones to. I took a close up of one soldier, the important part is to put on some gloss varnish afterwards.
Llamahead thanks for the name suggestions, I'm thinking of reinstalling S.T.A.L.K.E.R again on my pc for some inspiration.
Vitruvian XVII sure no problem I use vallejo colours for this. Starting out with a base coat of dessert yellow and shades with earth and charred brown. the camo stripes are terracotta and russian green same green that I use on the armour. I usually darken down the colour for my first layer and then paint it over with the original colour leaving a thin edge of the darkened part. This will increase the contrast a bit and make it stand out more.
About the pig iron heads they give the cadian figures better proportions in my opinion the original heads makes them look a bit squashed for some reason.

Hello thanks again for the comments. I have started to paint the Hq squad as usual things are progressing slowly, but here are some early w.i.p. photos.
Here are also two more guardsmen i have started on, I'm not sure about the green stuffed hood on the flamer guardsman. Hopefully I can beat my bad habit of starting to paint lots of figures and take to long finishing them.

These are looking ace. The camo scheme is well chosen, looks like Flora used by the Russian Federation Armed Forces.
And excellent greenstuff use on the kolony militia head with the flamer.

Very nice. I have to say I prefer the camouflaged helmet to the green one. Logic says it should be green like the other armour, but the camo makes it act as a focal point, which is always good for a head.
