The school yeah should be shorter because I think it takes away to much from my hobbies and life, and schools aren't really the only place you learn stuff...... - but don't get me wrong - I like school!

Length mean nothing without funding or willingness to learn. I mean my school you know have too pay 300 bucks to play football. and we cant afford good books or anything along that line.

The cynic in me says this topic is being used for someone's essay
As for making the school year longer; I'd rather there be some kind of optional classes held during the weekends or summer for students willing and able to learn. I like that there are public gradeschool campuses already available for students to specialize in business, health careers, arts, etc and it'd be great if such a system continued to expand. Skill training like autowork and the like would be another good option. We already do something like this with sports and performance arts like marching band and football since their summers and weekends are taken up practicing and training. The more choices a student has the better off they are since traditional schooling is very cookie-cutter.

Come on, you can't even spell school right. For that reason, I'm voting for more school.
Heck, you're not even capitalizing the beginning word of your sentences.

You're not SUPPOSED to like school.
It's not there for your enjoyment, your fun, your sense of being.
It's there to give you a grounding in reality and life, be it educational or social, or those fortunate few that care, both.
Many things in school messed me up, but now it's gone, those were the best days do my life, at least until I got to University.
I really miss bunking off Double maths or having bra related fun with the science teacher, and heaven forbid, I miss assembly :(

The Japanese school year is 200 days long; true. Do they spend as much time in the class "studying" as in Canadian schools (can only talk about my experience here); No.
In elementary schools, there are 6 periods of 45 minutes. There are 10-15 minute breaks between periods. 1/3 of in classtime is farting around with archaic procedures from 100 years ago. This lack of actual study time is one of the reasons the JUKU business, or extra evening school, for children is popular. They have to go to school twice a day because the first time they went was a total waste of time. No one fails in Japanese school between Grade 1 and Grade 9. Even if you do not go to one day of school in that entire span of time, you will still be in the grade normal for your age. Only in High School do they start flunking people, but that too is extrememly rare.
Public schools get holidays in March - April (approx 3 weeks), one week in May, 6 weeks in the summer, and three weeks around Christmas/New Year.
Although Japan has a literacy rate of almost 100% and their education system hailed as a success, it generally doesn't produce any free thinkers, is devoid of any imagination and focuses on memorization as the equivalent of intelligence. I'll step off of it now.
As for how long the school year should be, it's quality over quantity.

It doesn't matter how long the school year is. I spent all of high school (new jersey) pissing away my time, and still passing with a GPA over 3.
Then I went to college (Engineering degree), and got my ass handed to me for the first year while I actually had to get off my ass and study.
Public schooling in this country is FAR too easy, and increasing the length of a year by 20 days won't help. With all the focus on no child left behind, those few students who actually have ability are largely ignored, and just glide through the system. They should focus instead more on preparing students for either A) college or B) a trade. Both are valid options, but unless you prepare for either, your going to end up flipping burgers.

QFT - I believe Germany and some other Western European countries focus on preparing students for either post secondary study or trades.
