Quick question. I'm putting together a load of background for the 40k force that I'm putting together, based upon background in the regions covered by Dark Heresy. In a fit of madness, I've decided to try and tie the force into the background even more by creating DH profiles for any interesting models that I piece together (given that it's going to all be sculpted... that's probably all of them!). I know there's going to be a mismatch between the 40K and DH stats, but I figure this is the peril of going onto a large battlefield rather than sneaking around investigating small groups of heretics. The same can't be said between DH and =I= though.

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on converting DH stats over into =I= as well as it seems a shame to not use these characterful figures there as well. I know both systems are D100, but the basic DH stats are well below those of a starting =I= character...

For example, a starting DH scum character would have a starting WS of around 20. In =I=, the closest character type is the Depserado, who comes with starting WS of something around the 40. The rest of the stats are equally disparate.

Just doing a quick comparison it kinda looks like you'd double the relevant DH stats to get a relevant =I= value, but that runs off the assumption that a starting character in DH is of the same level as a starting =I= character, so I'm not sure how valid a conversion this is. Given that the =I= characters are running around *with* the Inquisitor rather than *for* the Inquisitor that implies, at least to me, that the characters are of a higher level... if that's true, the conversion could be anything.

One of the characters that I want to make is a Rogue Trader, who will be replacing my Guard Command HQ. So for his stats I'll be needing the new RT book when it comes out; which, as it supposedly runs at a higher power level than DH, also indicates that it's really not going to be as simple as doubling the DH stats. So maybe the original choice to do a straight stat swap from one system to another, as starting DH characters really would be plebs by comparison to the likes of a RT or Inquisitor, is actually ok...

What do you guys think?

(sorry for the semi-coherent brain dump... I'll try and clean it up in the morning when I'm less asleep. Hopefully it makes some sort of sense though?)

There was a conversation on converting Dark Heresy to Inquisitor on the old version of The Conclave, but that must have been before the site was killed by hereteks as I can't find it anymore. I think the conclusion reached was that there isn't really a simple formula for converting between the two game systems. The two games tend to be used to represent characters at different points in their careers, with Inquisitor generally representing more experienced characters. And unlike DH, characters in Inquisitor don't start at the bottom and work their way up - there isn't really an experience/advance system in Inquisitor, and so a 'starting' character can already be a master swordsman, Inquisitor Lord or AdMech Magos.

So, probably the best approach would be to look at what level the stats represent in the two systems and work out what stats are appropriate for your character. A fair starting point for working out Inquisitor stats would be either my article here (which is based on and extrapolated from the rulebook), and the various posts in this thread on the 'Clave.

If there's anything else I can help with on the Inquisitor side, just ask.

They are both very interesting reads, thank you. Time to have a go at creating some examples
