I was flipping through the older Lizardmen Army book last night and got into the fluff. There was a description of how the WFB world was created by the 'Old Ones' and all the races placed, etc, etc, but it left their identity completely open to speculation. I then started going through some of the older GW publications I have (Slaves to Darkness, Rogue Trader to be exact) to see what info I could find there. Well, beside the fact that Ulthuan didn't even make the map in Slaves, I couldn't really find any concrete clues.

I've got a few theories as to who they might be/have been. 1) The Necrons before they became the Necrons. 2) The Jokaero, a race mentioned in Rogue Trader known for their mysterious background and advanced technology. 3) Longshot - the Tau.

Does anyone know? Are there any other theories out there? I don't read any of the Black Library stuff, so I might've missed some Warhammer Fluff 101.

Slaan. The modern Slaan Mage-Priests are the degenerate descendants of the uber-powerful Slaan that built the warp gates, terraformed the planet, and seeded it with sentient races.

I recently read some fluff (either the Daemons army book or a WHFRP supplement) about the first Chaos incursions, which battered down the Lizardmen city-states one by one, permanently breaking their ability to hold the world's magical energies together.

EDIT: In the 40k Necron codex, it is hinted that the Slaan engineered the Orks as a warrior caste to fight the Necrons, so there is considerable precedent for them being massively powerful and dabbling in the engineering of entire races and worlds.

Thanks dude for the answer. I went back through Rogue Trader and found the Slann page and it backs up most of what you wrote, except the Ork bit. Somehow I missed it. So I guess the 'Old Ones' were just 'Old Slann'.

Any thoughts on Sigmar being a Primarch?

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Yeah, the Eldar and the Krorks (who later became just known as the Orks) were created by the Slaan to fight hte C'Tan.

I'm guessing the Slaan in Warhammer are just the tiny remnants of the great Old One Empire.

If your asking what hapened to the Lizardmen, they completed the tasks of the Old Ones, got rescued and never seen again. Then they relised they failed and Chaos came again but they were already on the opposite side of the universe, drinking beer with their masters. If you want to know the names of the Old Ones just ask.

So was Sigmar a Primarch or not? Super human guy. Comet from the heavens. Lives his life like a Heavy Metal album. Goes off and disappears. Is there any other fluff that backs this up?

Omadon's Realm

The fluff of the great and ancient Realm of Chaos books alluded to it and directly stated that the warhammer world was in the 40k universe.

Then, a little while after those books had been replaced, GW smoothed that all out, along with the Illuminati and the Sensei and the Star Child rebirth of the God Emperor.

I personally loved the other bits but whfb being in 40k just stank.

Officially, no...or, at least, not anymore.

40k and WFB are not the same universe, and are in no way related. Sigmar is not a Primarch.

However, from a historical standpoint, I am fairly certain they USED to be related (around the time of RT/Slaves of Darkness/Realms of Chaos), which explains the similarities in old fluff for the two worlds.

It is strange that they aren't in the same universe as 40K is only in the galaxy and there are trillions of galaxies in this universe. But I get the point - a la DC and Marvel universes.

Both worlds are still related, as of the last Liber Chaotica. They go so far to mention that they are the same chaos gods (the main four at least) in both worlds. It mentions that Slaanesh was still 'birthed' by the Eldar even in Fantasy. Now, with the Liber Chaotic getting updated soon by the Black Library I don't know if that will change or not.
