I am planning on starting to paint models to put on Ebay, in order to try and Turn a Profit.
If I were to Paint Marines, which chapter should I paint the models as to generate the most interest?

I don't wan't reasons as to why I should choose them (i.e. fluff) but an indication of how popular they are.
Please bear in mind that I cannot paint entire armies, and so can only paint special characters and generic ICs.

(if this is in the wrong section please move it)

I voted raven guard because they got stuck behind enemy lines for so long and they fight like insurgents and gurilla warfare which is all different from the others

Salamanders ftw.

Black Templars are badass....

However, I'd say Blood Ravens are a good choice too; they seem to net in a lot of DoW players who are like "Wow, this is the first time I've seen/heard of Warhammer; and it looks boss... I like these Blood Ravens" <- totally me.

No offense to Ultrasmurf lovers but, essentially because there are so many of them, I think you're statistically more likely to find a player who A) wants Ultrasmurfs and B) isn't interested in painting them him/herself.

On a completely random note, I think the plural of Ultrasmurf should actually be 'Ultrasmurves.' Much more sophisticated I think...

The 'proper' plural of elf and dwarf is elfs and dwarfs. It was just that Tolkien though elves and dwarves sounded better and it became the accepted norm.

Thus, smurf would properly be pluralised as smurfs, due to the fact they were never Tolkienised.

Incidentally, the other night, I dreamt that I had written Lord of the Rings, but then I realised I'd just been tolkien in my sleep.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I've put ultramarine sbecause their EVERYWHERE. Which i might add, annoys me ;-h since dark angels are so much cooler! (personal pref of course! XP). Plus it seems that people are drawn to their blue armour like magpies and diamond rings!

Ultramarines are by far the most esthetically pleasing chapter.

However , the following reasons of why some people hate them.

- Not grim dark enough ( lol excuse me you emos!)
- They are everywhere ( apparantly this off set the idea of them been few in numbers , yet we see them everywhere )
- Not exactly the easiest to paint and look good ... Black Templars are chosen often due to the easier paint process.

Blood Ravens, Ultramarines, Salamanders.

Perhaps if you took a considerable time converting the Iron Hands to have lots of mech-attachments that would work but it would have to be a modelling appeal rather than a generalist background fanbase.

If you want to make money...Build a space wolves army...

I put Ultrasmurfs as they are everywhere like LunaHound said. However, i think it would be sweet to do others, such as imperial fist or like MeanGreenStompa said Space Wolves.

Probably Salamanders due to the massive twin-linked/mastercrafted BS they get. And I don't mean ballistic skill...

Id go space wolves as well as this is supposed to be a profitable venture. New codex and a colour scheme that I've heard is difficult to achieve (I've heard not tried this myself) means this is something that will be in demand and every one loves a well painted IC.

Just because I don't care, Doesn't mean I don't understand!

Out of curiosity, how would you write the plural of 'shelf', 'wharf' and 'hoof' (respectively)?

If the problem is proper names, then what would you say is the plural of 'Space Wolf'?

The top contenders would be Ultrasmurfs, Salamanders, Blood Ravens, and Blood Angels.

Ultrasmurfs because... do I need to even explain it?

Salamanders due to the recent surge in popularity in both fluff and tabletop presence.

Blood Ravens due to new players from DoW getting interested in the tabletop game.

And Blood Angels because of their former status as the flagship, they're still quite popular, especially amoung older gamers.

No offence here, but is this a piss take?
sure, throw on a sub chapter such as the blood ravens and miss out the blood angels

but yea, Fafnir has a pretty good point here about the ravens, DOW brings up some extra interest forthem.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

O H I am in the Webway...

Either Sallies or Space Wolves.

With the new wolf codex they will be in high demand.

Sallies, with being so competitive, would be a very popular army.

Really, you could go with a "buy model X, you specify which chapter out of these chapters:"

Ultramarines are among the ugliest chapters, however, they are BY FAR the EASIEST chapter to paint.

@OP
I voted for salamanders, because people think they are the most competitive army.

I said UltraMarines. They really ARE the most popular. AND Calgar wipes his ass with pretty much ANYTHING this game can pump out. So that ALSO adds to why they are so popular.
Your best bet is one of the three: UltraMarines, Salamanders (because of the new stuff in the dex for them) and BloodAngels. Well make it four, I guess with SW coming out they will also get more people wanting them, AND they have always been popular.

Hope that helps ya a bit

As others have said, you're likely to turn a good profit with Space Wolves, since the new codex is just around the corner.

Additionally I'd cast my vote for Ultramarines, since they are the standard chapter color. If you take this route however, I'd check ebay to make sure that not too many other people are already trying to sell Ultramarines.

IMHO, I think Angry Marines would be pretty cool. I know they are not an official chapter, and it would be a real niche buying audience, but have you ever seen angry marines on... anywhere? Not on ebay, not on craig's list.
That means you can make some more money than on, say, smurfs, because you can pepper the posting with "one of a kind", etc. With the more common armies, you have to charge competitively, or your "would be buyer" would just buy the next item down the results listing that is $10 cheaper than yours. That is with the Buy Now option. For an auction... the sky is the limit when it comes to something with a very small/no supply. $$$

Another cool one would be the Adeptis Orthodontists. Or their eternal enemies, the Plaque marines. Hurr

I say Blood Ravens, partially because of Dawn of War fans, and partially because their aesthetics compare quite favorably with the older 'special' Chapters. ...But then, I like red things, and I think their iconography is awesome. As is their name.
