Updated , Sept 23rd .

Decided to give white color schemed sentinel a try like i always wanted to ( but sort of intimidated )
Well , it was a success ! But since the sentinels are a trio , i have decided to change the green one alittle to easier
fit in the others .

Hope you like them! ( my friend said the white one looks like starwars lol )

The Sentinel is nice, but it's too "flat" - there's no pattern to provide additional visual texture. For example, if the lascannon & battery pack were cased in black and highilighted to a bright silver, then we would see something. Same with the whatnots on the roof, and the glasswork.

Also, the color is a bit light, but that depends on the rest of your IG force. If you're going for a that bright of a green, then you'll need dark olive jungle stripes / patches / snaking / webbing.

I like it so far, I don't know what the guy is talking about with the "visual textures", I understand what he is saying about the glass but I think it looks okay. The tubing on the lascannon looks good I hope you don't wash out the purple and blue with too much white.

Actually John was right ( his comment was before i re ink / decal / touch up )

I'll try taking another picture of the glass , because the blast shield is casting shadow over it .
We wont be able to get rid of the shadow till i flip the sentinel on its back xD

Wow, that looks much better. The blacklining from the wash is a huge help.

Question: have you thought of a complementary wash with the Sentinel upside down? It will give secondary visual texture to the larger flat panels.

Also, for the white cables, consider to pick out / stripe some in yellow / red / green / blue / black - it'll better define them as individual cables, rather than a single covered tube.

The only other suggestion is something organic on the base to contrast with the hard angles of the Sentinel itself.

Im dont know what complementary wash means ( sounds interesting though ) please explain xD

ahh i didnt look at the cables as cable , i thought it was like those glowing coils similar to plasma cannon's glowing blue areas .

If you did black wash, you can do a 2nd (or 3rd) wash in brown or green. It will add color depth.

I like it.. Although Im not too sure I agree on making some of the cables different colors... it wouldnt match the rest of the model imo... I actually thought the same thing about them Luna... Whenever I get those on my models I paint em blue... I might try them individually now...

Interesting, I'd always assumed the big fat cables on lascannon were indeed power cables rather than coils. Presuming they are cables , having more than one colour would make some sense (I'm thinking of realworld power and computer cables, where the individual cables have different functions and need to be different colours to avoid Tragic Accidents) - I wouldn't make them bright colours, but subtle/faded colours could look good.

This is a really nice paintjob, but the base needs more detailing.

Updated with new one ( one more to go! )
and then back to my tank bustas lol...
(ps) i Know the antennae are even more wriggly than before... they suffered an accident when they both fell on the floor during varnish.
LUCKILY nothing broke , just some very bent antennas.

The desert / snow sentinels came out very nicely. Good use of non-white "white", and nice weathering / whitewash camo effect. I like them better than the green one, but you could probably consider to add some more color contrast against pale blue on white, unless you're going for a strong winter / desert camo effect..

Luna you're paintjobs rock. I really like the pale off-white sentinel. Is the technique achieved with washes, blending or something else?

Thank you for the encouragement! The white is just "off white" paint . The brownish area are just accidents when i painted the white before the wash dried.
I dunno what color to add the contrast with ( im guessing you meant the 2 Imperium Eagles right? )
so i just decided to try some blending while i had white paint + blush wash still on my paint brush lol

Oshunai wrote:Luna you're paintjobs rock. I really like the pale off-white sentinel. Is the technique achieved with washes, blending or something else?

1) I sprayed it in gray first ,
2) then i sprayed it in white the 2nd time BUT in a different angle ( basically simulating the angle sun light hits )
3) wash
4) clean up / paint the white on ( there is no blending ... just smudged paint when it touched semi dry wash )
5) paint on the metal parts with bolt gun metal ( was really lazy late at night so only the legs are metal lol )
6) added some black wash / blue wash on the cables / joints .

The large plate looks like "blending" but it really isnt . Alot of the time i criss cross my paints when i "layer" them
for example the final paint looks vertical , so the "whitest" areas are done with horizontal stroke first.

Something that others have told me right away is regarding the green sentinel . They said the green color is not going to be helpful in a snowy area lol...
how do i change that without repainting the whole green sentinel?

Looking good!

Another effect that might be worth trying is the Soviet WW2 winter camouflage when the tank was painted white with chalk dissolved in water on top of green and by spring the white would be wearing off.

Soviet tanks were sometimes painted in disruptive pattern with blotches of white on top of green. Try that with your green Sentinel.

T-T "air brush"

Sigh... without air brush now days it almost seems like a handicap in modeling / hobby .

Never! I refuse to use an airbrush simply on principle.

Thanks for explaining how to do the off-white. Its solved a problem I have been having on my turret's paintjobs.

Lastly, on the green sentinel I agree with the tundra-esque style paintjob/camo idea.

The weathering effect can be easily achieved with glazes (very thin washes) applied vertically.

I think the balance between the blue and white is just right. They look real smart!

The last one *screams in terror one* looks cool actually. But like you said if its changed then that no longer applys i guess :S

They look amazing though.

Luna, if you just huff said paint thinner enough, the green one will eventually look really awesome.......

That being said, looking really nice. Your painting skills have improved tremendously sine you first came to dakka. Nice work
