I don't know about anyone else, but there have been times I have wanted to actually chat with another member here on dakka.

I don't know how much it would take to accomplish, but adding a 'chat' feature, much like facebook, could be usefull to people

Gwar, Im going to use you since its a name that came to mind...

For example, Gwar has model A up for trade. He's looking for B, C, or a unit of D on the sprue. I don't have any of these, but have an E I don't need. I could click on the chat button next to his name (because he's online right now) fill out a 'subject box' like a thread and a window would pop up for him asking if he would like to accept.

Gwar - So you want A
M - Ya, I have a few E's I dont use, think we could work something out?
G - Totally, I dont use E's but do you have any W's or X's?

m - I was thinking more like 4?
G - Ok, I can do 4, Here's my adress ... ..... ......
m - Sweet, I'll get those in the mail tommorow, I'll just put my address in the box.
G - Cool man, see ya around.

This way, the haggleing of price, or model in this case, could be done in realtime. It would also be great for people that are bouncing idea's off eachother.

Ideally, I would love it to happen much like facebook runs their chat, in a little box that follows you from screen to screen while browsing dakka. That way, you can chat with someone about something, while not having to click on a different window to see if they have replied (and so you dont forget to reply back while reading that 80 page WIP thread). This also prevents people from having to be 'friends' and people bugging people all the time just because thier online. Accepting the chat would just add a little window off the bottom of the page, but it wouldn't be there unless you accepted a chat request. I don't think it would take much (if anything) away from the posting in a forum aspect of dakka, being as alot of people arn't online at once, posting in a forum gets more feedback/discussion, and we're not really here to chat, there are chatroom websites for being social (or real life lol).
