Hey Guys, I finally got my camera working... so I've been able to upload my Blood Ravens army that's pretty much unbloodied in Battle (ironic considering the name).

Anyhoo, as it was my first I'm relatively proud... even if they don't look too great.

So please, enjoy these images and leave me some feedback These are my choice units... my grunts don't tend to look as good unfortunately (though the scouts are a pretty good indicator of how I paint when I'm feeling lazy).

I don't think my Camera really does the models any favours... you should try zooming out the page (CTRL+Mousewheel) to un blurrify the images...

I'm pasting the URLs off of my Dakka Gallery complete with titles and descriptions:

My 'best' Model

This here is a Vanguard Veteran I poured my heart and soul into (it didn't actually take that long). I find metal figures are much easier to paint as details really just "paint themselves"... you just put the brush over it a few times and they look fine. All I've done is a black sprayed undercoat, Mechrite red basecoat, and Red Gore overcoat with Bleached Bone on the helmet (Veteran status) and Shining Gold/Boltgun Metal trims.

A lazily made Vanguard Veteran

This Vanguard Vet is the one you get in the metal box who comes with a two-handed blade... I threw that into the Bitz Box and glued on these Termie Lightning Claws... I was yet again scared to do any conversion work (attach them to power armoured arms) so I left them as vanilla Terminator arms... which looks very amusing on the model as you can see (having arms almost as long as his body?)

My Vehicles

Old Rhino (from when I was like 9, obviously repainted), Razorback with Twin Lascannons, Landspeeder Storm and a Predator.

Some of my favourite models

These three models sort of indicate my range; you've got the Plasma gunner on the left, Devastator Sergeant in the middle and Company Champion on the far right.

Brother Silas

Brother Silas is an AoBR Dreadnought armed with a Multi-Melta and Dreadnought CC Weapon... I do lurv him but I wish they were made to scale :-/

Command Squad

They've proven pretty much a waste of points ingame (but I play small 'uns) but they are one of my favourite squads... from left to right: Apothecary, Company Champion, Standard bearer with MC (painted) bolt pistol, Veteran with Power Fist and Bolt Pistol, Veteran with Flamer and Chainsword aaand in front; my Commander with a combi-melta and Relic Blade.

Sergeant Telion

He's my only named Hero; I wasn't very confident with conversions (I'm bad with my hands) so I didn't bother to go and make him into Sergeant Cyrus or anything... He's bog standard Telion, I haven't really made up any fluff (it was nice to get to paint something in a different colour scheme) but essentially he's just here to help with the training of the scouts or some crap like that...

Sternguard Veterans with Converted Combi weapons

I went to town on these guys; though not necessarily in painting ability (observe the patchy job on the shoulderpads of the guy on the far left). I decided to kit these guys up as well as I could; I attached scopes to all but one of the bolters (as I ran out); so I went ahead and painted the remainder in a master-crafted style. They all have knives, the Sergeant's being in a scabbard on his left hip (visible). His banner isn't finished (it's blank...) but otherwise I am quite pleased with these guys. Also included on them; everyone has a bolt pistol in a holster.

Techmarine and Servitors

1 of 2; the lighting isn't so good so I may just take a picture of them again; the Techmarine has a lot of dents and scrapes as I haven't yet cut him a place in my carrier: He tends to break... a LOT... and it just gets tiring to repaint him

Assault Marines Sergeant

My first 5 models in my assault squad have an interesting story... I bought them off of Ebay as just bodies... no arms, no weapons, no packs... I bought the packs off of GW (stupidly, I wasn't aware of Bitz Box's existence at the time...) for about £5 I think... I think got the weapons, arms, etc. off of BitzBox when I talked about my dilemma down my FLGS and then after sticking 'em all together I think the price tag hit £15... meaning I saved NO money at all and didn't get any of the nifty extras like that awesome power axe or combat shield :< Now the squad numbers ten models which I brought up to level with a normal assault squad boxset...

My Scouts

Pictured here are all of my scouts bundled into one shot; I only actually play with 5; and load them according to the situation: I hope to deploy them via my untested Landspeeder Storm to nab objectives. Pictured: 1x Sergeant Telion 4x Sniper Scouts (=a squad of 5 sharpshooters...) 1x Sergeant with Chainsword and Bolt Pistol and 4x Scouts with CC weapons and Bolt Pistols. Plus 1x Missile Launcher and 1x Heavy Bolter that I'll throw in if needed.

Its hard to see the detail as the pics are pretty blurry. All I can really say right now is at least they are painted lol

Grrr. So frustrating! Not one of them is in focus which is really annoying because I really want to get a nice look at them.

Did you use the macro mode? (looks like a little flower usually)

"Wot, This? Naw I've had this fer ages. Of course the paint's still wet, it's me favourite. Sell it to ya if you like. One Careful owner."

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

It helps even with a rubbish camera if you have quite good light (bring over a couple of table lamps) and a white background and surface for the models (I use a bit of cardboard box with some white paper stuck on it).

Then, you really need to rest your camera on something when taking the pictures, such as a stack of rule books etc.

I would also advise not zooming in very far, as some cameras will not like that. Take a fairly wide angle picture and then just trim off the excess in the windows picture editor (or something similar).

From what I see it looks like everything is painted to a nice table top standard. I would throw the side fins on the drop pod though.

Invest in a $5 tri-pod for your camera. It is worth the money

However, I can tell you're not finished with these figs. You know how I know that? Because your bases aren't covered. Every time Baby Jesus sees unfinished bases, he punches a puppy. It's true. So, please, for the puppies, finish your bases. It's easy and it let's the world know that you are well and truly done with your minis.

I did have the flower thing enabled on the camera... aye, perhaps I zoomed in too far.

The images had a VERY high resolution, so you guys are probably right in saying that I should take a picture from far away and then crop it... I just did these quickly after being inspired to do so

I'll try it out later with my dad's camera... that's a much better one, I used our "expendable" model heh.

I also have plenty of books lying around to use as stands

Form what I can see of the paint job, you did pretty well. They are the correct colors and are easily identifiable as Blood Ravens (I run them as well). You should be proud to show them on the table.

Cheers

If I give you a cookie, will you go away? If I give you the bag, will you go far, far away?

They all look a good table top standard to me and like the other guys have said at least they're painted, unlike mine, lol.

You said earlier that you're not confident with conversions, my advice would be to get some cheap models from ebay and some modelling putty and just have fun.

The other option is sites like 'kits and bits' where you can buy individual bitz from any plastic GW kit and simply have fun swapping pieces around.

I'd say they look pretty nice, especially considering that i still have marines from the old Battle for Macragge set that i haven't painted yet. And I feel your pain with the camera issues, that's the only reason i don't have any pics of my Blood Ravens up yet. And if i did I'm sure that you'd feel a lot better about yours.

Hey, good job on the colour, i myself have done blood ravens and i suggest this way to do your bone colour (which is good, but a bit flat)

snakebite leather > bubonic brown > bleached bone

with this you can give better highlights and add depth to the model (as i stated before). I like how you have painted the helmets bone gives variety to the blood ravens.
