Okay, so I had my first RCoD and now am IMPATIENLY waiting for my "repaired" 360 to get back to me. I find it funny that they had that article about the amount of fails for consoles in the last month and I got mine. No, no. No conspiracy on my behalf. I was wondering how many times have you had the RCoD and is there any "proven" ways to prevent it from happening again?

Just looking for Dakka's input.

My brother had it twice, once with his original and again with his fixed box, they sent him a replacement instead. My Elites never had it, instead one suffered from a broken HDMI port and the other is okay, if a bit noisy.

Happened to me twice...one of those times I think it was because I sat the Xbox with its hard drive next to a speaker that wasn't magnetically shielded though.

The 360 service is at least pretty good in this department though however I'm not looking forward to owning the Xbox post warranty.

I got mine during the second wave, after the fixes had supposedly been made. I had been Red Ring of Death'd 6 times. 6. For the first year of owner ship y 360 was in a Texas repair center longer than it was in my home.

Dang. Sorry all. I got my 360 back yesterday as I was leaving for work. So, I was rather impressed of the rather quick turn around. Kinda funny that they told me that it could take up to 3 weeks. Had it back in a little over a month.

Anywho... I heard from someone that if you stand your console vertical, you stand less of a chance of failure. Anyone else able to confirm this or just was it just chance and a big pile of who-ie?

Had mine do it once, then had the "X chip" as its known altered by a friend, never had it since
and i got it a week after owning my xbox, and that was the day they were released over here

also, it seems my Xbox is much more quiet than everyone elses, most sound like a fething choppa taking off lol

I'd just like to troll by saying my NES still works. The place where I work we've gotten a few in and fixed them as per the online methods. I hate new gen consoles for this exact stupid reason. ESPECIALLY when they want to charge you for it.

mines an original run, never RRoD'd and it's always horizontal. I put it up vertical about 3 times and one of those times laser burned my original Gears of War. Horizontal is the way to go, it doesn't block the fan on the side thats used as the bottom when vertical. My mate just puts a wet towel on his xbox, fixes it every time.

To further how much hate is in my Xbox's hate/love relationship, it continuously eats my games. I have never finished Oblivion because every time I buy the game, my XBox eats it. Every. Single. God. Drat. Time. I am so sick of this. The stupid thing ate my Gears of War too. Damnit.

Are you guys SERIOUS?! Why the hell go back to the xbox then?!
I had one when it first release. It red ringed the first time I turned it on. FIRST TIME! I thought I did something wrong (seeing as the RROD wasnt really known then) It played after screwing with it for a minute. I discovered it didnt do it so much on its side, and turning it on by the controller. That one red ringed ALOT. Then one day, it had its final RROD lol. I havnt went back to an xbox since. Which is sad, be cause the original was AWESOME. I loved that system so much I bought 2 of them. The first I had for years. Then after my 360 went to the crematorium, I got nostalgic and bought another original

We keep getting new ones because they keep sending them to us. The warranty had been extended from one month, to 2 months, to 3 months, to a year, and finally to 3 years.

Something tells me that you don't HAVE to... Do you really want to play a bunch of Generic FPS games that badly?

I was told by a Microsoft tech to always have it Horizontal, any vibration when Vertical, even a loved one walking past the place you have it could damage the game being played.
He must have been having a bad day as its not the sorta info you expect to be told by one of their employees.

Oh and it came up when I was ringing in my first and only *touch wood* RRoD and I mentioned that I'd had two Oblivion games get ruined.

Not happened on any game since I put it Horizontal.
