Bugs use bright colors to represent warning... that's kind of the general idea...

Messing around with the carapace color scheme... Stripes or spots... or stick with a solid color?

I was thinking some kind of tan for the body... can't decide on the gun...

I think solid .

However , if you give the striped one some white spots , + gloss varnish on carapace it can turn out really well.

Agreed with LunaHound

With the gun, just carry on the same theme; carapace is yellowish; the bone bits are in bone... etc. etc.

I think it'll be quite an effective colour scheme overall, having the gun blend into the body ...

The gun is a symbiote that is part of the tyranid's body, so yeah it'd makes sense that it'd be the same color as the body. But it's your model, so the only person that needs to like it is you.

I think a dark contrasting color would look good on the non-carapace bits.

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports.

I'm liking the spots, not something you see very often and it looks great!

Just carry on the same theme on the gun and you'll be fine, especially since it's a fleshborer. Now, if you were using a devourer the fleshy bit on the gun would be a different color.

Excellent real world influence on 'Nids. From an Entomological (insects) point of view bright colours usually suggest toxicity or poison (or mimicry of poisonous creatures) to stop larger things eating them, especially stripes because they are more contrasting and visible.

Am now worried about what in the galaxy is going to eat the great devourer. (This is not looking good for my stunties. Going to have to smear them in marmite and hope they're in the "hate it" camp!)

The first scheme (spotty) is my favourite, and will probably be easier to paint in the long run IMO, Consider how many you've got to paint and also how the scheme will look on the bigger chaps, and the horde overall in large numbers.

When it comes down to it you've got to go with your preference, if you're anything like me they'll take over your life! and the last thing you want to do is get half way through your horde of gribblies only to decide that you preferred the other scheme.

Classic ! You should put that in your sig

OT : My own preference is for the spots, the stripes just don't fit IMO (perhaps try doing them across the carapace instead of along it, then put spot over the stripes ?)

As for the weapon, I agree with the others about keeping it similar to the main mini

I like the first one the best. The other one is also great though. Nice and simple design. Should work great on the table.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I think they both look quite good. Perhaps do an intermediate design so you have 1 squad with spots, one with stripes, and one with a combination of the two.

Easy way to destinguish squads. Then for everything else, give them the mixed paintjob unless you have more than one unit, in which case you have 2 other schemes they could be using.

Or perhaps that would look too disjointed... of the two, I would pick the spots if I had to have only one.

I also agree with the above that you really need to varnish these guys.

I think the spots look better. I agree with luna that if thats the one, it needs a bright contrast color. Looking good so far
