I see alot of posts about foam cases... and the battlefoam, while looking cool and all, is VERY expensive... am I the only one who uses a humble GW case? with the proper foam layout (cut from GW foam), here's what I can fit in one GW case...

8 rhinos
4 predators
2 land speeders
7 terminators
30 (ish) tactical marines
10 assault marines
1 land raider
1 dreadnought

and i've never broken a model... in the battlefoam video, the guy talks about there being extra space at the top of the case, causing the models to move around. true... I consider that space a blessing though. on the top level, you can fit 6 rhino chassis vehicles per side, and then put the top foam piece on... it takes up the extra space, but allows you to fit more vehicles in the case!

the middle level of one side I left just a standard tray to hold tac marines / assault marines. the middle level of the other is trickier... you need to hollow out a land raider sized chunk of it, so the raider can carry through to the bottom level. you need to do the same for the dreadnought. it should leave you with enough spaces on the middle level for 7 terminators... more than enough for a standard raider to hold.

on the bottom level of the one where there is a land raider, you need to dedicate another half tray to holding the raider, and another 2 spaces to dreadnought that is taking up 2 levels. the rest of the area can be used for predator turrets / marines. the land raider is a bit of a loose fit in there, so you can fit a small dice bag in that space as well.

the bottom of the other one can hold... LAND SPEEDERS!!! I know it sounds crazy, and it looks a little wierd (not flush) but the foam compresses around them, and they don't break... I haven't broken either of mine and i've traveled with them all over the place. I only used 2 speeders down there, but still. it works. the rest of the other bottom can be used for more turrets, marines, or grubbins.

the bases for the land speeders can fit upside down between the crack of the two top pieces. on top of those 2 foam pieces, you have room for 1 codex, several copies of the army list, and templates.

but seriously, with the $99.00 GW case, I can fit a 2000 point army securely. sure, it may be somewhat complicated to pack... but I think its balanced by the fact that it has a hard shell, and is more durable I think.

this all said, if I had the $300 for a battlefoam case, i'd buy one. but we all aren't rich... i'd rather spend half the savings on another GW case and just expand my army more... its pretty packed in this case.

no i still use them exclusively. i bought tons when only the smaller one was available and wish i had the larger ones. i hate carrying the two cases separately for my guardsmen.

I use the large GW one, works a treat (except I still need a separate space for my tanks and DP's).

I used the gap or space on top and blu-tacked a cork-board like so:

Great for pinning those army lists, campaign maps, or even just post it notes.

There is also enough room for dice, two tape measures, two tins full of pins (for the map), and a pencil case with the bright green GW markers in them.

It has yet to fail me.

that is an AWESOME idea. pinning a corkboard up there... is awesome. i'd have never thought of that.

Shucks, it werent nuttin!

In all seriousness, its made the campaign conveniently portable, was easy as to arrange, and there is still enough space for two codex and the campaign rules to fit snuggly without putting pressure on the models (not counting the dice and other stuff).

I've got 3 of the smaller ones and four of the double ones. One smaller case is for my Daemons (Daemonettes, Blood Letters, Furies), another is for my Deathguard (sans Terminators/Dreads), another is for my Deathwatch, and then the four big ones are for my Chaos, Marines, Inquisitorial and Necrons (usually just the metal standard sized models, plus bolter marines, heavy weapons and whatnot).

The Necrons will be moving to a new home in one of my Sabol cases soon though, as the case they're in right now is pegged to be the storage home of all my Warhammer Quest stuff (which is currently stuffed into a box - not all that great for metal models).

The big GW cases are pretty good but I can't help but feel that the foam is too thick and the walls between the models on the same try are a bit too thick. I play a few horde armies, so I prefer being AT for the ability to remove all of the walls cleanly.

I sell a ton of GW cases in my shop, and probably an equal amount of Sabol Army Transports. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I like the GW ones for all my infantry, Sabol for my larger stuff and tanks.

Was going to sell Battlefoam, despite the high cost, as it looked very cool at first. But since Romeo won't sell any of the good trays to stores, it's worthless to me. The cases with pick and pluck have sat around for two months. Had 3 on preorder, 1 guy picked it up, 2 others passed when they found out I couldn't order them the custom foam. Still sitting on two of them. Going to blow them out at cost on our next sale, (hopefully), and be done with it.

I use a small GW case and a big Battle Foam one. The GW is nice when I'm not dragging around the whole army to the model club but the Battle Foam survived a trip through the postal system from the US to the middle of the Indian Ocean. Considering a tough box of mine was smashed in transit (how? I don't know) but nothing broke in the Battle Foam I'm kind of partial to it now.

I use the GW case which fits in the Apoc Backpack. It is being used for my Tau. I let my friend use my other one. Other than that I use my Battleform 1520 for my orks and a couple metal sided cases from the hardware store.

I use two of the small GW cases for my Necrons, which I carry around in the GW troop transport backpack. Got another case for my marines, and a fourth case I use for my grey knights, but I really need to get around to getting new foam for that one.

I've used sabol cases befor, but never really cared for them myself.

I would have used the large GW case with the vehicle foam for my Crimson Fists, but they stopped selling the vehicle foam.

I currently use a Sabol case for all my stuff. Holds it well.

I moved from my 3 GW cases and a suitcase stacked with sabol foams to the big battlefoam case. Totally worth the cost.

Im slowly starting to use my GW cases again for my Empire army, though I may order new foams from BF just cause they are easier to work with.

Ironically, all of my friends that play flames of war use the GW cases exclusively. The slots are perfect for the infantry as well as the tanks, and a full FoW army fits neatly into a single case.

I still use them, but mainly for storage. Granted I haven't traveled to a tourney in a while so I will probably use them then.

The only case I've owned was an official GW one and it was used to transport my now-sold Praetorian army. Did its job and I prefer the look of the GW case compared to its competitors especially since the aquila fits right in with IG.

I have two of the small GW cases because they work great for the hands-by-the-side 25mm infantry models. My terminators and obliterators go in a Chessex box, my tanks go in foam lined cardboard boxes, and the randomly gesticulating characters and monstrous creatures each get their own little foam filled left overs container. Oh, yeah, and the bikers, beasts and calvary fit are in the Sabol style foam trays because it's convenient. Then again, the Warmachine medium and large based guys go in Sabol trays because the shapes are just too irregular.

My current dilemmas are what to do about my Defilers, the Soul Grinders, and my Furies because the shapes are just so irregular.

I do, but they break my stuff all the time and I have to fix them.

Not very high quality, but I still use it rather than a cradboard box.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

1 Small GW Case.
1 Large GW Case.
5 Sabol Cases (All Smaller).

The Large GW case is great,
but for the price in Australia you can get a sabol large case posted here. So not the best price (I think $180)

So they are great,
but cost is prohibative (when Sabol and Battlefoam are close in price and I feel better foam product)

Agreed. I don't know about putting up corkboard cuz my big case is pretty much packed as it is...maybe something a little thinner. But I love the idea.

I'm soon gonna get some battle foam stuff and just put the foam in a plastic bin people buy to hold their lego or K,nex from The Warehouse(New Zealand Version of Wal-Mart) Sure it will cost a lot but i'm sick of getting my models to games in one peice then coming home and spending an hour or so glueing my tyrants back together......
