I've seen a lot of people use Dark Angels vets with Chaos bitz to make them look like veterans, or at least more sneaky. A popular loadout is the plasma suicide squad, with as many plasma guns and plasma pistols as can legally fit in a squad. Having up close, possible first turn rapid fire is really useful.

Most common I've seen is about 6 or 7 chosen, 5 meltas / combimeltas, and a rhino, all outflanking or infiltrating.

The problem I see with chosen and infiltrating (lash aside) is that they are not really effective with it unless they have a small squad...which has its own problems.
The infiltrating mechanic means you infiltrate MORE THAN 12” or 18” away.
18” away means no melta guns, no flamers, no double tap plasma guns.
If it’s 12” away that means no combat, no melta 2D6 range.
So lets recap infiltrating when you go first or the opponent is not stupid enough to walk closer to the chosen without dealing them them.
If you have to do it at 18.000001” away, they you should prob. get plasma guns and a hvy weapon cause you’ll need to stand and shoot to get the range to hit anything.
If you have to do it at 12.000001” away, they should prob. get plasma guns so they can double tap, while meltas can hit, they won’t be using 2D6, but can still rely on the basic characteristics of the gun.

IMO, if you go chosen (I personally don’t find them interesting) go with a Rhino and outflank them.
Load them up with what you need to supplement or compliment the rest of your list.
You don’t need to maximize the squad, nor should you take a minimum sized squad.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I used to make a devastator squad with all plasma rifles and the champ had a PW PP. Dunno if you can still do that since I read the chaos dex once and hadnt opened it since.
That was a pricey squad but MAN did they kill things

Yea, Chaos Devs are called Havocs.
Chosen and Havocs both have access to plamsa guns.
Chosen get infiltrate and a 5th weapon, while havocs are cheaper.
They are a bit different.

Well yea you are paying an extra 3 Points per model for that infiltrate oh and +1 LD
In all honesty it's really the whole fact of hiding them in a deep piece of terrain and then popping out when the time is right and laugh like a mad man
Or jumping out of a rhino actually it's the rhino that's the deciding point
If you want the rhino then take havocs ^_^; and as for marks.. ummm erm well I got nothin

I don't have much input on playing them, but I like to model them with mutations, and more detailed bases.
This guy has counts as dual lightning claws:
This guy is posed on top of a fallen Khorne icon, and is one-handing a plasma gun:

@Vulkan:
So.... you are discounting Chosen in rhino's that outflank.
The deciding factor should be:
If you will outflank more than normally deploy a 4ish special weapon squad, Chosen.
If you will not outflank with a 4ish special weapon squad...havocs...but then just get normal Troop CSM instead.
Automatically Appended Next Post: In addition, combat chosen are even more underwhelming.
Infiltrate = no combat until prob. turn 3 (lash aside).
In addition, just get terminators...

Infiltrating Broodlord
|
I rarely use them. When I do its with 4 or 5 flamers and outflanking to catch them offguard. Basically I use them for fun against my ork friend who has to decide if he really wants to bunch those orks up behind a building to hide from fire from the main gunline. If he does, he gets 8 orks hits with 5 flamers.
Against MEQ armies and such, not worth it.

My Chosen for my pre-Heresy Death Guard army.
Personally, I like my chosen with 5x meltas in a Rhino. But depending on the army I'm against (mostly Orks), 5x flamers in a Rhino can be absolutely devastating.
That being said, I wouldn't suggest taking chosen until you have the mandatory Chaos units out of the way. Mostly your Oblits , but also PMs and DPs as well. I wouldn't suggest taking a squad of chosen if you aren't already fielding 2 Demon Princes

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"
Is that followed by a pile-in move?
That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"
Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round? |
