Is there a legal or recommended base size for an Eldar jetbike model? I've seen two sizes, and they're really different. Just curious.

the one they came with . . . and for the record I've seen 3 Hexagonal, small and large but I've heard of 2 more sizes. You can use all of them but I've personally moved all of mine onto the large skimmer base.

You put them on the base they come with.
Scouts Honor.
The Small Flying base and the large flying base are both used on jetbikes.
Old Old ones are on hexagon bases.
Old ones are on small flying bases.
Newer ones seem to be on large flying bases.
On the tactical side of things there are pros and cons to using the small vs. large flying bases.
Large bases:
Longer conga lines.
More Congestion, more area taken up by squad.
Less models hit by blast weapons.
More 'impassible' terrain.
More models in combat if using a mix of bases, with large base up front.
Small bases:
Easy to hide.
Takes up less space.
Able to avoid difficult/dangerous terrain better.
More hits from blasts are possible.
My 7 Cents.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

The rules for bases tell us:
"...miniatures are normally supplied with a plastic base. If so, they must be glued onto their bases before they can be used in the game. ... As mounting your models on different-sized bases might affect the way they interact with the rules, make sure before the game that your opponent does not mind this." BGB p. 3 (emphasis added).
So, assuming you don't want to have to ask for your opponent's permission before every game, the language "their bases" suggests that they must be glued onto the bases they were supplied with. In practice, this means any base that particular model has ever been supplied with. There is no practical way of enforcing it otherwise.
Hope this helps.

Wouldn't this be in line with Terminator basing? Current release Terminators are on 40mmbases, but I had mine initially on their Third Edition 25mm bases. I would think that since the newer jetbikes come with the larger base, that's what they should be modeled to.

Part of the problem may be that GW is not good at packaging. Sometimes the bikes come with .... no base.
Ive had both eldar jet bikes come with no bases and an assault on black reach (the orc copters) come with no supplied bases.

There have also been various reports of jetbikes coming with different bases depending on the packaging (battleforce/army box/individual model boxes)... which rather understandably confuses people regardless of what the rulebook says, since it's not a particularly out-there assumption to make that they should all be using the same size base.

Personally my DE jetbikes came with large bases. If I would have had older JB models, I would put them all onto the newer bases.
As far as im concerned if the newer ones come with the bigger bases, then i try and put the old ones on the bigger bases to keep it simple.
Same for terminators, all my old metal ones are now on terminator bases, since 4th ed when the new termies came out.
But all the power too you if you want the small, awkward bases for the bikes.
Cheers!

The rulebook might be big and the rules might change, but the index of the rulebook actually contains the word "bases" and a reference to page 3.
If a person isn't smart enough to try to find his answer in the rulebook before posting here, shouldn't we worry about said persons ability to remember breathing?

You're assuming that the people asking haven't already seen the rule in question.
Again, people can be quite justifiably confused by the fact that the same model comes with any one of several different bases.
They can also be excused for not being familiar with the size base provided with every single miniature GW currently makes. Somebody asking what size base a model should have when they don't actually own the model in question but have seen it on the table with various different bases isn't going to find 'Look in the rulebook!!!!11!one! What are you, stupid?' to be a particularly useful answer.

Use whatever bases you want. Just be sure to not go bigger than the large 40k flying base.
The whole argument about using bases supplied is the nutlow. Who is going to use 3 different sized bases to base models if they were bought in different eras of packaging?
Your opponent gets alittle cranky and wants you to play with correct bases. Tell him to "bleep" himself and find another person to play. These "randoms" trying to get people to undo their models to make them happy is beyond me.
For the record...
I use 40mm bases for jetbikes, 60mm for vypers and grav tanks.

But, what do we do with the models that come with no bases? The BGB says that they can only be on the bases that they come with and they must be on bases. So its a very legitimate question as to what type of base to use in this case....if any.
And dont say its not common, two separate eldar jet bikes from years apart plus a blackreach battleset are 3 kits that I myself have bougfht with no bases. Ive seen at least two more eldar jet bikes that came with no bases as well.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Pure nonsense.
Model your army as you see fit, keeping base sizes within reason. Eldar jetbikes can be on the hex flying, small quarter sized flying, large flying, 40mm terminator bases or anything similar sized. Vypers and Grav Tanks can be on large flying, 60mm dreadnought bases or anything of similar size. I'm not saying throw a titan base on your jetbike, just use some common sense.

However in this case Pure nonsense = Rules as Written ... any sensible sane person will let you change all the your models onto the new bases BUT that is not the base that it came with and you need permission to field it. In practice only TFG will ever question base sizes and to be frank i think that the inclusion of base sizes into the rules was a mistake.
