I disagree. (On the latter, at least... I agree on the first part. Most players won't even notice if your models are on non-standard bases, let alone complain about it)

I think 40K would be better served to go to the same system that WHFB uses (or at least used to use, haven't looked recently) with each unit having a set base size since, while minor, it does have an effect on how the unit functions in game.

But since they seem to be resisting that sort of move, the rules are what they are.

What he's doing is pointing out the rules. How you apply them is entirely up to you.

Whats really funny tho is how GW uses both base sizes for the eldar jet bikes at the same time. Check out pgs 78 and 79 in the planetstrike book for a nice eldar set of bikes using both sizes in the same battle. It looks like there are different base sizes even in the same units.....

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k).
