Hello I want to make nifty looking daemon princes yet don't want to wait until I am in my 20's for the "plastic daemon prince"

Ok. A spawn with wing's say from a Vampire Count's bat or a Tyranid Gargoyle or Possessed?

A mutated Dreadnaught?

Or a Greater Daemon with wings molded on?

A really ed up Terminator?

I need imput I have a ton of parts and need to stop using Dungeons and Dragons models as Daemon Princes.

Thank's Dakka

Shadowbrand.

I've sold so many armies. :(

To use one of my own ugly figures as reference, I think this would be too small to use as a daemon prince:

Picking a random image from the gallery, I think this would be big enough to use as a daemon prince:

Pretty much any version of the the greater daemon models with wings slapped on it would be big enough to use as a daemon prince if you wanted.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

As others have said, as long as the body (remember wings don't count for LOS) is at least as big as the DP model, and it's on a base the same size or larger, go nuts!

Doesn't even have to be that tall. Just has to be modeled with the correct weapon options- a crawling wraithlord is legal, too, albeit unsporting ;-)

LOL... If I ever run CSM or Chaos Demons, I'm going to use the D&D Minis Balor model as my DPs:

Cheaper, prepainted, and even has a Lash.

I have seen a couple of those.

Although now that I think about it, that is probably the only cost($) efficient way to use them now.

I like that one that has a sign that says LICTOR on the base. Thats clever.

OT tho. Personally, as long as it looks cool and is easy to tell what your doing then Id have no problem as far as counts as goes. BUT it also needs to be similar in size. A dred would work perfectly. If you made a blobby chaos spawn type thing that was big enough, totally. But a terminator size would be much to small. Even if you had him up in the air to small. A DP has a rather large body. And would be a bit tough to hide behind certain terrain, where as a terminator can hide behind ANY terrain.
Im sure your starting to see where a smaller DP would benefit you more then is fair. Weather intentional or not, it would give you an advantage. Id say get some size comparison pics of aDP next to other minis you would recognize and go from there

At our local store we have a chap I play regularly who is basically using a f'ed up Termie with accouterments as his DP. I have zero problem with it in standard play but probably at a tourney I would be off put since its smaller size certainly makes it easier to hide behind terrain/vehicles that the regular DP couldn't possibly use.

So I suppose my answer is - depends on where you want to play it, but by conforming to size and making it look different enough to avoid confusion you ought to be fairly safe.

I'd say that any of the above would work, depending on your conversion.

I think a 40mm base is required, but as you're converting, you can use a 60mm base for a larger (e.g. converted Dreadnought/GD) model.

I'd target for a height of around 2" or so, maybe a bit taller.

Have fun!
____

Looking at comparison pics, the GW Daemon Prince would stand around 3" tall, if it weren't hunched over so much. But crouching with the back vents up keeps it similar overall height.

Fantasy Dragon wings makes the thing way huge.

Couple Demon Princes I've been working over in my mind include the old version of the Orc Wyvern, replacing the rider with the fantasy Nurgle guy on a horse. Other is an Ogre Tyrant with wings from one of the Tomb King's undead vulture things. I also want to get a Shagoth in there because I love the fig, not sure on what I'd give it for wings yet though.

I use a black reach dread with fantasy dragon wings for my DP.
Never had a problem with it.

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

If you have the money check out the ultraforge slaanesh greater demon. I use the vrok model as my tzeentch DP and greater demon. Also when needed i use my balrog as a DP. As for the conversions the dread is good and like said above the termie and spawn would have to be at least 3 and a half inches tall.
