Hi guys
been on this forum a while now and ive been meaning to drop by.
LOTR Was what got me into Warhammer and ive still got most of my figures now. (Ill start painting them and throw them up here)

Its the one game i can say models wise and what books you need, i know a fair bit about.

But two things that are nagging me.
Why has LOTR Got so much poor coverage I.E Forums and why is it hated so badly by so many gamers?

Ide love to hear from you guys
And otherwise see you on the forum

Regards
Steve

I think you focus on the wrong (i.e. 40k / WFB-oriented) forums.

There are plenty of LotR orientated forums out there. Last alliance was great until it crashed last month, but will hopefully be soon back to its former glory. One-ring.co.uk also comes highly recommended.

As to the hatred, well I’m not sure myself. Of course there are plenty for whom the game has no appeal and there’s nothing wrong with that, just as there are many who don’t play 40K or Napoleonics or D&D or Football. LotR is rather different to GW's other games having a rather differed aesthetic style and philosophy with regards to game play (the more narative, objective based nature of the SBG and the different turn structure in both SBG and WotR) compared to the other 2 core games so it’s no surprise the overlap between them is limited. That’s not to say that either game is inferior or that LotR's appeal is limited. It just appeals to a different style of gamer, the frequent positive write ups of the game by the historical gaming crowd and the fact that it continues to turn a profit is testament to this.

But what really gets to me is the actual haters, those for whom live and let live is not enough. There are many gamers I have encountered who seem to actually actively desire that the game be stopped and begrudge it even the tiniest coverage in WD or shelf space in GW and groundlessly blame it for everything from their favourite obscure game going out of production to the Reichstag fire, for no discernable or logical reason besides what I assume to be schadenfreude.

These people are best ignored. If the game appeals to you and you want to play it go ahead.
