I'm kinda at a crossroads here... I have ~2000 points of marines, consisting of 40 tac marines, 10 assault marines, and a sundry of vehicles / junk for them. I love my marines army, they always serve me well in games... but i'm kinda wondering if enough is enough, and I should cut it here, or should I take the plunge and go apocalyptic and expand it out to a company sized force? I could probably get them up to company size for about $160... rhinos included. not that bad.

Anyone have any experience fielding a battle company in apocalypse? How do they normally do?

Once I get to company size, it would be a great justification for me to go out and buy a thunderhawk too....

Well, I say go for the company!

You'd "just need" around 20 more Tactical Marines, 10 Assault Marines and 20 Devastators, along with 2 Dreadnoughts.

All that, if you go for a Codex company between the 2nd and the 5th.

I did this, I have a codex battle company backed up by scouts, veterans, fast attack and tanks. I never bothered to get all the rhinos tho, to expensive and I never tend to use transports... Anyway I say go for it, it looks impressive all lined up on the floor or even better in an apoc battle! (before the baneblade cannons start firing...)

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

Funny how much disappears after the Baneblade is done talking

I had nearly 3 Companies worth of Marines. My goal was to build a whole chapter. Then I got sane.

A full company is good for an Apocalypse force. I wouldn't go beyond that though. If you want to be able to do some truly epic games, then get some IG or Inquisitor forces to go with it.

Chapter is insane,
company is ok.

That many tactical marines just isn't worth it (But the new starter sets do make it possible without getting a mortgage).

Just keep adding and painting,
that way the whole thing looks impressive and not daunting.

yea, I didn't go out and just buy 100 marines and say boom, company.

I have over half a company already done... (4 tacs, 1 assault, and a command squad + captain), so I might as well just go the rest of the way.

I think after I get it to company strength, i'll buy or build a thunderhawk... haven't decided which yet. although, I know some guys who are pretty good with casting... I may just buy a thunderhawk, and see if I can't "reverse engineer" myself another 2 of them, so my entire company could arrive via thunderhawk transport in apocalypse.

how sick would that be. a 5000 point marine army arriving in one turn, via 3 thunderhawk transports.

That's really hard to say. I've got something around a demi-Company myself, but I'm going to be rebuilding it around the BA Codex whenever that finally comes out.

A demi-Company (3x 10 Tacs, 10 Assault & 10 Dev) w/ Command is a good little force once you properly mechanize and add support pieces (5 Termies, 10 Scouts, Tanks, & Speeders).

OTOH, if you've got your heart set on a Codex Company, then go for it!

Thing is, even for Apoc, ususally, it's more fun to play 3 on 3 with 1500-2500 each, than everybody drop 4-5k.

john... I think 3v3 is fine for apocalypse, but for it to be truly epic, everyone needs to drop 5,000 points!!!

If you can make a company without getting bored in between , by all means go for it!
It shows dedication to your army!

alright... so its time to go for broke.

when I get my first paycheck, I've found out what it goes to!

2 battleforces and a dev squad for some more heavy weapons should do it... I think I could do a 2500 point list with a full company. Imagine that... fielding an entire SM company in a normal game (albeit a large one)

I actually had a 2000 pt codex company list during the last edition. You can do it if you skimp on wargear. Had to field one assualt squad without packs to do it.

It wasn't particularily killy, but it's tough for most armies to wipe 101 marines off the board in only 6 turns!
