Subject: New Tyranid Creature "Lauriigon" (Lor-ee-gone)

FAST ATTACK
The Lauriigon is a violent, centipede-like organisim which can move at speeds of up to 85km/h. Unconnected to the hive mind, the only thing this savage creature seeks is food. It feeds on hydrochloric acid, and drains each planet of its resource before moving on to the next. Once a planet runs dry, Laurigons will devour living organisms in order to obtain the acid in their stomachs. It eliminates its prey by using its many scythes to pin down its victim, forcing its razor-like tongue straight through its abdomen and into the stomach; where it feeds for a few seconds before moving on. The creature fuses its own 'Syphoula Acid' from its tongue with the stomach acid, which creates a compound that can burn through ceramite, but at a very slow speed. The Lauriigon drinks as much as it can of this compound, which it needs to survive, but what tiny amount is left in the stomach is a Guardsman's worst nightmare. Death by a Lauriigon is widely regarded as one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences there is, as the victim is left to die a slow and painful death after the creature has left their stomach open so the highly corrosive acid compound slowly burns them from inside out.
Lauriigon - 275pts
WS.....BS.....S.....T.....W.....I.....A.....Ld.....Sv
..5.......0......10....7......1.....8...8+ D6...10.....-/2+/2+*
Brood: 1 Lauriigon per army
Weapon Symbiotes and biomorphs: The Lauriigon has 4 pairs of Scything Talons and a Pair of Crushing Claws (Extra Attacks Included in Profile). It has the following Biomorphs; Acid Maw, Implant Attack
Options: The lauriigon may replace its crushing claws with a pair of rending claws at no additional cost. If so, it loses the extra D6 attacks from its profile, but gains the 'Rending' Ability.
SPECIAL RULES:
Hit & Run - The Lauriigon is extremely viscious but terrifyingly quick. It has the Hit and Run special rule.
Mindless- The Lauriigon lives to feed, and cannot capture table quarters, hold objectives, or count as a scoring unit.
Unstoppable- The Lauriigon automatically passes any leadership or Morale-based tests.
Insane- The Lauriigon has the 'Rage' Special Rule, but in the movement phase it must always run 2D6" towards the closest visable enemy infantry. If no enemy infantry is in line of sight, then the Lauriigon must run 2D6" in the controlling player's choice of direction.
Lightning Speed- The Lauriigon moves 12" in the movement phase, and can assault up to 12".
Immunity*- The Laurigon has no armour save, but an invulnerable save of 2+/2+. This represents the fact that the creature is immune to all kind of bodily harm, and the only way to kill it is to remove its tongue, which it needs to collect acid to feed on and survive. To kill the Lauriigon, it must suffer 2 wounds at the same time which it fails to save. If this occurs then the Lauriigon is slain outright as it only has 1 wound. Power weapons and instant death have no effect on the Lauriigon, but weapons that ignore invulnerable saves DO. E.g. If a grey knight purgation squad with 4 incinerators in it (incinerators ignore invulnerable saves) fires all their incinerators at the Lauriigon, and scores 2 wounds, then the Lauriigon is instantly killed with no saves of any kind.

looks a BIT overpowered...
it needs to fail 2 wounds at once in order to die? when its toughness 7? with a 2+ invulnerable save? statistically, you would need to do 12 wounds at once to it in order to kill it.... no small task when it is T7. also, it has a possible 36" range charge? thats INSANE! NOTHING can charge that far in the game....
some units will tear it in half, others will have no way at all to deal with it and will be annihilated.

Yeah, but it's a non-scoring unit, so it doesn't really matter whether it gets killed or not. There's overpowered, and then there's overpowered.
That's when you get a model with str 10, 10 wounds, t10, which CAN hold table quarters etc, and there are such models, for around 400 points. So considering its only got 1 wound, i thought if i charged any more for it then people would get angry if it got killed on turn 1...

Seems a bit owerpowered to me too...
Maybe you can create a rule to represent his need of acid...
Maybe it has X acid points and every inch it moves costs 1 acid (and it gains 1 acid per T of killed models) Then out of acid=immobilized.
But he can assault friendly units too..
Just guessing!
Edit: Typos!

Sounds cool but i don't want to overcomplicate things...maybe i could just knock his toughness down to 6?

The "problem" is that with a 2+ save it's really hard to wound him twice...
Probably the best way to tune your beast is to use it in some games and see how it performs...

MAYBE a paskisher, with all guns blazing... but only maybe. he'd still need 6's to wound.
I'd say give it normal stats... say, 5 wounds T7 2+ armor with a 5+ invuln. if you wanna give it a 2d6 fleet, give it a 6" move 6" assault.. any more is kinda rediculous.

or just make him 2 wounds, with a 2++ save, cost him about 350 pts, and use him in Apocalypse, when the incredible potential charge range in nullified, a little

How about....
WS..... BS.....S.....T.....W.....I.....A..... Ld..... Sv
..5.......0......10....7......1.....8...8+ D6...10.....-/2+
150points...
same rules except he moves and charges 6" instead, and has a rage of 6" also (he'll still cover ground pretty quick like this).
He is immune to power weapons, instant death, and weapons that do not allow cover/invulnerable saves now...but he still only has 1 wound, and if he fails to save just a single hit then he is dead!! this is more fair because i just noticed he has 8 initiative and 9-14 attacks so the opponent may not even be able to strike back...
i am happy with these rules but if anyone thinks of a better points cost please say!

don't make him worse, and lower the points value, 275 sounds about right for him, considering that he isn't a MC or has fleet
*edit: oh and hit and run makes little sense for him

hit and run does make sense 'cause if you read the fluff in italics, he pins down victims sucks out their stomach acid, and then leaves them to die; moving onto the next victim.
Oh, and i'm not putting him up at 275 pts because that is simply too much for a 1 wound model, never mind his other stats. A couple of bad dice rolls in the first turn, and i'm down 275pts immediately? no thanks! and i'm not putting his wounds up higher because i don't just want him to be the same as a carnifex. for 275pts i could get a 'fex with a better statline than this, it's just his lictor-like special rules that make him good.
i'll settle at 200.

9-14 attacks, at I8, along with his other rules and a 2++ is not equal to about 275, 1 potshot and a marine army just lost their LR

the Lauriigon has 'rage' so that it has to move as far as possible towards the nearest visible infantry unit. it has to be infantry that it attacks to represent it hunting for acid, and therefore has no reason to attack vehicles.

I used the LR analogy to represent the fact that most armies can lose a sinificant chunk of their list in one shot. and short of you making rules up for it whereby unless it kills something 'organic' in the previous phase its invulnerable save decreases, then there is little stopping you from going tank hunting

I think the ultimate enemy for this is Necrons. They shoot it, and it is completely uninterested in them.
Also, the fluff doesn't really work. Unconnected to the Hive Mind = Not a Tyranid Creature.

Um, by 'not connected to the hive mind' i mean that they are a bit like genestealers in that they have their own brood telepathy and can be away from synapse creatures without any effects.
and as for statu's idea of the inv. save going down, well, i like it! how about a special rule where, for every turn that the creature has not killed a living organism (necrons count as living because they have erm, living metal?), then the creatures inv. save goes up by 1. eg from 2+ to 3+
still sticking at 200 points though, think this seems perfect. Oh, and by the way it has fleet so it can assault after being forced to 'run' due to rage.

I'm a bit confused as to how the "No power weapons can harm it" Rule should be interpreted. Does it mean that power weapons can still hurt it but don't have their usual effect, or that no power weapon can wound it at all?

Sounds good for Apoc. but 8+ d6 attacks!!! Imagine how much that would cost, and its strength is too high. Keep carnifexes as the tough ones. Also i dont really see how th tough nidsonly have like 3 attacks, seems a bit weak to me, they should be beefed up. To easy to kill, my Wrboss wants a challenge!!!!!!!

Shooting with:
Bolters at BS 4 = 2/3 hit, 1/6 wound, 1/36 kill. Roughly, 324 bolter shots will take him down.
Lascannons at BS 4 = 2/3 hit, 5/6 wound, 1/36 kill. Roughly, 65 lascannon shots will take him down.
Autocannons at BS 4 = 2/3 hit, 1/2 wound, 1/36 kill. Roughly, 108 autocannon shots will take him down.
Way too powerful for 275 points. WAY, WAY too powerful.
Also, one of the biggest problems is, while this thing HAS rage, it is not at all disadvantaged by it. It's faster than ANYTHING in the game, save Eldar speeders with Star Engines that move 24"+12" (which it can match, with some lucky rolls), and can kill anything in the game, so there's no risk of charging something that it can't take on. This has a guaranteed first turn charge, unless their whole army is in reserves.

I know i could just say it has 3+ inv. But that just fits in with the fluff more.

While you are at it add the following special rule:
I Win!:
At the start of the first turn but before any players move, the controlling player automatically wins the game and counts as completing every mission objective.
If you opponent bursts into tears after reading the stats for this undercost, over the top monster add 10 killpoints to your score.
Bottom line the thing is way overpowered/undercost in both normal games of 40k and Apoc. You should listen to the great advice given to you already in this thread.

Eh... I'm not convinced.
For a centipede like creature I'd run with:
WS6 / BS2 / S4 / T6 / W5 / A10* / I6 / Sv 4+ / Ld6
Squad size 1:
Shed limbs: This model's attack characteristic is reduced by 2 attacks every time it sustains a wound.
Stinger: This model may forfeit all its attacks to make a single close combat attack at double its base strength. This attack ignores armor saves, and rolls 2D6 armor penetration.
Redundant organs: This model has the feel no pain special rule
Venomous: This model's attacks are poisoned.
Skittering monstrosity: This model has the fleet special rule and gains +1 to cover saves. It has a 6+ cover save in the open due to its body being so low to the ground.
Beast: This model advances 6" and may charge up to 12".
Mindless Hunger: Must advance and charge the closest enemy unit. In addition, this model may not make any follow up moves after winning combat.
190 points.
