Basically I am looking for input as to what base size everyone thinks the new Fenrisian Wolf unit should be. I have seen them mounted on both 40 mm (termi sized) and Biker bases in the past, but they did not show up anywhere in the codex this time.

They don't have any models, so i think you can technically mount them on whatever you want. But the fact that they take up two transport slots and that they look best on cavalry bases shows that you should probably put them on cavalry bases.

Are they planning on making figures for these ? It seems a bit odd that there is a unit in the codex that you cant use because GW doesnt make the mini.

I assumed that these would be released in a month or two.

Maybe yes, maybe no.. I have heard that they could be in the next wave of releases. Then again, some of the rumors are also indicating that it would be too specialized of a unit (not even every SW army would be using them) and would not be made.

I saw some nice conversions using Chaos Warhounds as a base on a blog today (2 days AFTER I order a chaos warhound box TYVM) that use 40mm bases that made me wonder what size was going to be “official”.

I would assume bloodcrusher/dreadnought bases would suffice. For the IC it looks like he's based on a Valk base, which would make for a huge model. Just a guess there though. How big does a wolf have to be to carry a space marine?

No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester

I don't think anyone could sensibly complain if someone simply used WHFB wolves on their 20x40 bases. Although some other options like the Chaos hounds (which come on the same bases?) are also tempting, if you don't mind a little converting.

There were (I think) some on display at the UK Games Day in the studio section. I don't remember seeing the models before and they were mixed in with the new SW troops. Sadly I didn't get a picture... I also can't find anyone else who's taken a picture either. I guess people were distracted by the tyranid codex poster next to the cabinet

Let's be honest. It woudn't be the first, or last time GW were to put out an army list without making miniatures for a certain unit. 2nd edition Eldar Exodites or Shining Spears anyone?

I think I have found the definitive answer to my question about base sizes.

GW posted on their website a Space Wolf army that belongs to the gentleman who wrote our lovely codex. He has a unit (or perhaps 2) of Fenrisian Wolves that are mounted on 40mm round bases. I guess if it’s good enough for the guy who wrote the codex, then 40mm bases are good enough for me.

That would be a good web page to print out and take to tourneys to shut up any whining opponents. But the GW staffer had to make up his own model and base just like anyone else - it's not impossible that in 6 months time GW or FW will release wolves on bike bases or 40x20 base or something else entirely. In the meantime, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
