I just realized that anyone interested in steampunk, cyberpunk, or shadowrun would be interested in these. Both the vehicles and the zombies.

Actually, they ARE of the new releases, per se, because that's the Army Box. Man those were fun to play around with and see in action.

And to think that I have stopped collecting AT-43, because of the lack of players and the firesale (which I interpreted to be a liquidation of the game products before discontinuation of the game)...
The Red Blok were too expensive, the Karmans didn't excite me, and the Cogs didn't even appear on my radar.
But the Oni, on the other hand...
Can anyone in the know answer this question for me:
I'm thinking of buying two Army Box Sets. I figure, like most AT-43 units, that would allow me to actually complete 1 full sized unit (with all options) and give me some flexibility. Is that a good idea, or am I better off buying only one box set and filling in the blanks with other units?
I really hate the fact that, with AT-43, one Unit Box and one Attachment Box are not enough to field all combinations of a full strength unit. For my UNA Steel Troopers, for instance, I had to buy two Attachment Boxes for each Unit Box. Will that be the case here?

Yes it is a good idea. I buy multiple boxsets myself, though there is a wasteage issue.
Now I dont yet know anythng about the Oni army book and list so I cant speak more on that however my Red Blok army has two boxsets at the core. Now Rackham is introducing the boxsets as a loss leader and while they include a full army they have reduced value when repeat sold to encourage unit box sales. However the discount is such that even if half the units in the amery box are usuable in a larger army its still worth buying.
For example my Red Blok army boxes include multiple top level heroes and vehicles, this is a deleiberate pattern as most armies will not want multiple top end units. Though to be fair if I played GenCol I could use everything all over again, howerver I dont. I bought the first boxset for everything, the second just for the infantry and Hetman. The second Dotch Yaga is nice but will not be used often, but let us discount that, even so when you pay just for the infantry you are getting a reasonable deal compared to unit boxes.
I suspect Oni to be no different, zombies are best deployed in a horde and a boxset gives you 20 zombies and 3 large cyber zombie TacArms. Douvbling up that can only be good even if the vehicles you will only want one of, and this may not be the case. One of the vehicles appears to abe an APC or generic laser tank, perhaps all you will be setting aside is the hero and the hero vehicle (if it cant be taken on its own). Thats more than worth it.

No idea, however Rackham is learning some of its lessons and rackaging units differently to how it did do so at the start. Notice how winter camo Star Troopers form integral units rather than a unit box and an assortment of bits. also remember that the units in the Army boxset will include heavy weapons and specialists for the squad.

The only unit not at full strength in the box is the Zombie Detonators(the Type 2 unit is at full strength with 2 Special Weapon Bearers and a Specialist). They come as the min unit of 8. Two boxes would allow you to put together a single full size unit of 12 Detonators with 4 left over, but wouldn't alter the configurations of the other 2 units( Tac-Arms and full size Type 2 Zeds). The box contents(in case you or anyone was wondering): 1 Min size Zombie Detonators unit (*) 1 Max size Super Zombie "Reanimator Alpha" unit with 2 Zombie Guns, Medic, and Zombie Master (**) 1 Zombie Tac-Arms Alpha unit (***) 1 Medium Destroyer (**) 1 Vlad (***) with Shogun Bokov

Thanks for the responses.
I guess what I am getting at, due to my OCD, is this:
Right now, my UNA army can make full strength squads with all options. For example, each Steel Troopers squad has a Leader, enough Steel Troopers for a full squad, 2 Mechanics, 2 Medics, 2 Special Weapons of every type available (MG, Laser, Missile), and a full set of alternative heads. That way, I can tailor my squads any way I want. I try my best to do the same for 40K, but due to all of the wargear available, it's too expensive for me...but with AT-43, it's reasonable to do. I know it's a bit of a waste, but it's how I want to build my collection.
Previously, getting enough Medics and Mechanics was a real pain in the behind. Sure, I could paint regular Troopers to make Medics, but again, that's not how I want to collect my army.
I know with Frostbite, there are new squad formations, but I've been a bit out of it and I still need to buy Frostbite for the updated rules.
So to rephrase my question to be more precise:
By buying two boxes, will I get enough figures to be capable of creating every single possible combination for each type of squad that comes in the Box Sets?
In other words, if I buy two Oni Box Sets, will my Zombie Detonator Squad be not only a full strength squad, but be capable of fielding every combination according to the Oni Rule Book? Same with the Zombie Tac-Arms?
I know I will technically be buying "4000 points", but in reality, my goal is to create a 2000 point army with all options at my disposal.

Yes, but only because Detonators have no Specialists and no Officers, and it would give you 2 medics and 2 Zombie Masters. Also, ONI Type ** units only have one type of Special Weapon available to each squad(Zombie Gun for Reanimator Alpha, Mortar gun for Reanimator Beta, Lasergun for Oni Korps UN, Sonic Gun for ONI Korps TH). I see ONI attachment boxes being Officer, 2nd Special, 2 of each Specialist, and 1 Basic trooper.

We need a codex review thread like we would see for a Warhammer release.

It seems like what they should do is package up 24 Zombie Detonators and a unit's worth of attachments, leaders, whatever. That way you have some spares for when you start turning the enemy.

I've got a copy of the Oni Army Book, Orlanth. Having friends among the Sentinels comes in handy.
As usual, the translation is a little weird. Not bad, but I just wish Rackham E. could get someone with some fiction experience translating the Army Books. Some of the verbiage and grammar is just stilted and odd, and often it comes off as a little juvenile to the point of breaking suspension of disbelief.
The only thing I don't really buy about the fluff is Oni doing business with the Therians. There is something decidedly wrong with both Oni and Med-Tech doing "business" with the Therians. I understand that for game design purposes Rackham wouldn't want to lock Therian players out of using these units...but perhaps this would have been an argument for leaving the original Creation routine untouched like how it was first interpreted and played as in Cypher armies. Give the Therians some crazy strengths to offset inability to use certain units like everyone else could to maintain integrity of the fluff.
I just don't buy that the Therians, who look on every other species in the galaxy as insects to be stepped on, or tools to be used towards their own ends, would ever "do business" with Avans.

I can see ONI offering their services, but I dont see the Therians accepting, after all mortality has no meaning to them, got a damaged unit, reconstruct it. If you cannot do so in the field it doesn't matter reconstruct it later.
Tactical issues notwithstanding, the way Therians are set up victory or defeat is of no consequence because attrition is a decisive and omnipresent ally.
Besides my work in progress med Team consists of some heavily converted Damocles storm golems and a disposable air freshener shell which looks uncannily like a giant nanogenerator. At my rate of modelling I might have it done in the next few years.
