Subject: Need Dakka's help identifying this Dakka "member"
Luna created this thread to direct the accusations away from herself. It did not work.
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

When I saw that Luna needed help identifying a Dakka "member", I didn't think so much "member of Dakka" as I did "A Dakkite's Member."
The actual content of this thread is a mild disappointment, but also a relief.

I don't think it will help to stalk this person.
No guess not .
But who in god's name would go through such length and trouble just to attempt to scam me?
Arnt you guys curious at all?
People window shop all the time online. Ask anybody that spends time on Bartertown or other trade sites. You generally get a "back out" ratio of 40%, In my experience.

I know people back up all the time . But people arnt so eager + get into very detailed discussion of trade details just to back up
on the last moment when tracking shipping is mentioned.

People do weird stuff. I once went out with a girl, had a lovely dinner and some drinks, good conversation, agreed to do it again, a kiss goodnight. After that, she never picked up when I called or responded to any emails or IMs. You can't take stuff like that personally.

The story of my life... 5 this year so far, and the year's not done yet! Sigh, at least tell me to feth off instead of having me be hopeful and then ignoring me.
But yeah, someone talking to you about a possible business deal and then stopping? Happens all the time. Is it annoying, well yeah, but it seems to be acceptable behavior for many people. I would assume to avoid any sort of conflict.

Why, if you're doing a commission they're putting their trust in you are they not? Unless this lapse in communication was utterly unacceptable, which I can understand, but still sadly to be expected from people.

Only while painting.
Once she ships, if it's not verifiably trackable & insured, they can claim not received / damaged and basically end up with an army painted for free. Without tracking, there's no way for her to prove that it was shipped and delivered.
At the army level, we're talking hundreds of dollars of minis, with hundreds of dollars of labor painting, so not tracking and confirming is dangerous for the painter.
That said, it's probably helpful for Luna to lay out standard terms and conditions, maybe put that on your Dakka userpage. It'd cut down on shenanigans.

Thanks John , you are on the spot 100% .
Well yes, but how would it not be trackable or insured upon return unless she didn't pay for those features when shipping it back? Therein lies my confusion.

The other guy doesn't want to pay the $$$ for tracking & insurance on the return, so Luna would have to eat those costs to protect herself, rather than having them as conditions of trade.

Ah, okay, I missed/misunderstood that. But yeah, if he's insistent on her lowering the cost because he's saying he doesn't want that done upon return then that I can perfectly understand. It's part of the price after all, figuratively and literally.

There are too many variables to potential "problems" Its better safe then sorry imo , pay $3 more and save each other the grief.
For example:
Variable 1: He could ship bunch of (already ) broken models and claimed it was fine when he shipped it.
and it would be my responsibility to fix it ( thus extra effort )
Variable 2: He could even have NOT shipped anything , and claimed he did . ( Atleast with tracking and confirmation , we'll know he sent *something )
Variable 3: If im not clear on these , he could easily try to claim $500 worth of insurance for $50 worth of models. And upon it crossing the border
i can potentially pay $80 of extra customs fee.
There are more , but the above examples are enough for me to be careful , VERY careful even if im the one receiving first.

Anyone doing painting commissions on sent-in stuff should make it a standard term to ship recorded both ways.
It's only 75p per parcel in the UK.
If the value of stuff is high they should insist on insurance too.
These costs should be borne by the client. He can deliver and collect in person if he wishes to avoid paying them. Terms like this are absolutely standard in business, for the protection of the firm and clients.
Don't accept commissions from people who don't want to comply with those conditions. Otherwise, one day you are going to get burned.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also if this stuff is being shipped cross-border it is the client's responsibility to pay any customs fees. It's his stuff, after all.
Anyone who balks at those conditions is not worth doing business with.

Like I said, I understand what the issue is now. I just didn't know what the problem was initially, save the lack of communication of course. It simply wasn't clear.
I never once implied (or meant to imply) that someone shouldn't track and insure a commission package going either way.
The person getting them could simply go nope, never saw them, and run off with your stuff. Same as the person you're sending back to could go, nope never got them back, and then petition PayPal for a refund.

Thats not our job thanks. Private transactions are your own business, not ours or Dakkas. Caveat emptor mens rea tacos el grande.
I'm shutting down this thread to avoid flaming, and frankly its a bit weird.
