Prologue
Pusslip entered the tent of Stoutstump the Kitten-Eater cautiously--like a dog that had been beaten too much. Peering into the darkness he whispered, "Master. I have the kittens."

Stoutstump's scarred and gnarled head peered forward. "The Deff Kopta scouts say there are six warlocks with their farseer. I must have one kitten for each warlock." Pusslip swallowed some snot, grinned, and held foward a small basket. Stoutstump picked up the first kitten. It purred quietly. "You are skinny bones" he declared and tossed the kitten down his throat. "You are skinny face with bad flame weapon" Stoutstump pronounced as he seized the next kitten, who had been sleeping cozily, and swallowed it whole like a pill. The remaining four kittens disappeared without putting up too much of a fuss. Each was marked with the name of a warlock ....

Ork list: Warboss, Mek w/KFF, diversified nobz in dedicated BW, 3x20 boyz, 11 grots and runtherder, 2 deff koptas (1 buzzsaw), 3 Battle Wagons
Eldar list (approximation): Jetbike farseer and seer council, Fire dragons in wave serpent, banshees in wave serpent, fire prism with dire avengers aboard, 3 more wave serpents with dire avengers.

For this battle we used a Irish GT deployment (it's next mont), "Call to Arms," which is a pitched battle deployement with a randomized placement (left side, right side, center, or choose) in your zone. It's an annihilation mission.

I won the roll and decided to go first. Because everything is randomized, including reserves that arrive on turn 2, going second will not give you much of an advantage for deployment.

I deployed in the center of the board with the four raging wagons. The Eldar deployed in his right corner, keeping two wave serpents and their Dire Avenger squads in reserve.

The koptas turbo-boosted to get eyes on the fire prism and the game started.

Turn 1The Koptas move into shooting range of the fire prism and the wagons drive up the middle. I had my wagon of the left break slight left to cut off any hovertanks potentially. In the shooting phase the koptas failed to do anything to the fire prism.

On the eldar turn they spread out. The wave serpent with the banshees breaks to the Eldar left while the serpent with the Fire Dragons moved up the Eldar left. The seer council moved forward but was noncommital. Mediocre shooting saw only one kopta killed and the remaining kopta made his moral check.
Kill Points
Orks:0
Eldar:0

Turn 2
Anytime orks can assault on Turn 2 they are generally happy. The Wagon on the ork left moved 13" and spit out 20 boyz near the fire dragon wave serpent. The Nob wagon and another wagon with 20 boyz unload close to the wave serpent containing the banshees.

I declare a waaagh! but get poor rolls--oh the boyz will get in assault range they just won't be able to block disembarks. On the ork left the boyz and the remaining kopta managed to explode the Fire Dragon wave serpent. Two dragons die and the remaining four fail their pinning check.

The nobz and boyz on my right wreck the banshee wave serpent. The banshees disembark orderly enough and will be assaulting the nobs presently.

The eldar have some luck on their turn. Both of the wave serpents in reserve arrive and both are allowed to choose where they appear (4+ in this deployment allows player choice). They drop two squads of dire avengers near the boyz and kopta on the ork left.

One of the units blade storms and between the serpents and the avengers all of the boyz and the remaining kopta are killed to death. The seer council wipes 20 boyz in the shooting phse with destructors. The banshees hit the nobz and inflict four wounds but are wiped.

Kill Points
Orks: 3
Eldar: 3

Turn 3
The gretchin arrive from reserve and proceed to cower in a corner. The battlewagon on the left decided to deff rolla the fire dragons. A death or glory attack results in glory for the eldar as the battle wagon is wrecked. The nob squad moves towards the seer council but will not be in assault range. One battlewagon remains with a full squad of emarked boyz and it delivers its green cargo to the seer council. One warlock dies (3+/4++ rerollable save are you kidding me!!) but only five orks die. Can the remaining boyz keep the council occupied long enough for the nobz to arrive?

The Eldar dispatch a wave serpent and dire avenger over to collect the gretchin kill point but it will take another turn of movement to get into shooting range. The remaining dragons move towards battle wagons but some remarkable saves from the kustom force field prevent them and the fire prism from doing more than immobilizing one wagon. In the eldar assualt phase the seer council wiped the boyz mob but rolled a terrible consolidation and will most likely be in assault range of the nobz.

Kill Points:
Orks:3
Eldar:4

Turn 4
Two deff rolla attacks on the seer council fail to do anything. One nob barely makes it into assualt--a 1/4" more and they would have been out. The ork general chastises his wagon drivers for not planning the tank shocks with more care. In any case, three nobz and the warboss are stuck in with the seer council. No nobz are wounded and two warlocks die.

The eldar blast the gretchin who promptly go to ground. Although they lose many of their number the squig hound of the runtherder convinces them not to run away. In the eldar assault phase the nobz trade a few wounds with the seer council.

Kill Points
orks: 3
eldar:4

Turn 5
Once again the orks are behind in KP and need to make up ground in a hurry. The remaining mobile battle wagons attempt rams on a wave serpent. On the way, one of them tank shock a squad of dire avengers who fail their morale check and flee. The wave serpent dodges the first ram but the second ram connects and destroys one of the hovertank's weapons. The two wagons are within grabbin klaw range of the fire prism and the damaged wave serpent. In the ork assualt phase the seer council is finally defeated. The nobz consolidate towards the center of the table.

In the eldar movement turn a grabbin klaw manages to latch onto the fire prism. It will get ssaulted by the nobz if the game goes to turn 6. The eldar destroy the gretchin squad, but the fire dragons and the fire prism fail to take down a battle wagon. Really bad luck there.

Kill points:
Orks: 6
Eldar: 6

Turn 6

The nobz mult-charge the fire dragons and the fire prism killing both to death. A squad of dire avengers disembark from the fire prism and fail their pinning check. The eldar wreck a battle wagon on their turn and the game continues!

Kill points:
Orks: 8
Eldar:7

Turn 7
A quick turn. The orks destroy the pinned dire avengers and despite some desperate rolling the eldar fail to kill a wagon.
The game ends with an ork victory: 9 to 7 kill points.

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

I was not confident going into this battle--mech eldar are scarey. The dice broke my way though thanks to my little furry friends.

Question on this one...

"The battlewagon on the left decided to deff rolla the fire dragons. A death or glory attack results in glory for the eldar as the battle wagon is wrecked."

How the hell did 4 fire dragons survive 2D6 s9 attacks?

Perhaps we messed that up. My understanding was that you only take the hits if you fail to stop the tank shock.

edit: A successful Death or Glory stops the tank "directly in front of" the unit. So no deff rolla then.

look what games workshop says in the official faq:

Q. Does a unit that successfully stops a Deff
Rolla-equipped Battlewagon’s Tank Shock suffer
any hits?
A. Yes, it does. In fact, it suffers 2D6 S10 hits!

Weird. What's the point of "Death OR Glory" if death is inevitable? The rule book seems to be pretty clear that if the tank is wrecked it does stop.

Oh #$^# Thanks for that.

Death or glorious death?
I killed a carnifex with a deff rolla in a match once ...wasn't actually mine but this was apocalypse and my m8 was letting me use in return for a defiler

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

I love the pink who says orcs cant be as stylish as eldar

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."

Altanis wrote Vindicare. Hes like Santa he watches when your sleeping. He knows when your awake. I doesn't matter if youve been bad or good because the inquisition put a hit out on you and a shield breaker round is gonna go through your head when your eating your weaties.
