So does anyone know about the upcoming game Leviathans from Catalyst Game Labs? And were they in any way in cahoots with Scott Westerfield (/kidding)? Just seems funny that two eerily similar things would be released with the same name.

Catalysts

or

Scott Westerfield's new book

For whatever it's worth, the book - while aimed at young readers - is quite enjoyable. I read Westerfield's Risen Empire series and fell in love until I heard he wasn't writing the third one for a long time. It's such a great series so far, it seems a shame he's putting it off.

I have not heard of them knowing about the other. I did see and actually read the first part of leviathan in the book store. I may pick it up for my boy if he stays interested.

I've been lightly following this game on the company and product site. If its done well I think I'll get into it.

Thanks for the heads up on the book, might be worth a read.

Well lets see, giant hydrogen filled airwhale, with attack hawks, and fletchette bats.. (Clankers would fit right in with the Guard though)

vs

Inexplicably flying battleships..

Both good looking steampunk, the books great, but OMFG I want the next two -now- the name's probably just coincidence, going after the biblical Leviathan and that whole Victorian trend in naming ships..

Next up, Looking Glass Wars #3

<Rarity> I am not whining, I am complaining! Do you want to hear whining?

Thiiis is whiiiiining! Oooo, this mini is too expeennsive! I'm' going brrookee! Can't you make it cheaper? Oh, it's resin and not metal anymore! Why didn't you take it off the sprue first? That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>
