So, when making a Pre-Heresy World Eaters army, would you use the SW or BA Codexes?

Now, I know the SW is much more competitive, but that's not what I'm asking - which one do reckon is the best match? SW seem obvioud, with Blood Claws as troops etc, but then the idea of BA Death Company as a Berserker Squad maybe too good an idea to resist. And BA get access to a lot more Jump Packs. But Are Jump Packs very World-Eatery???

What does Dakka think?

Yeah, i also just noticed that Blood Claws, Jump troops and Bikers in a SW army all have WS3. Um, so I'm going more towards BA too...

Add another to BA's, if you read the Horus Heresy books theres a section about World Eaters assault companies - which Kharn was a boss-man of - so you could very easily theme it around that and they would have a high number of assault unit, but I'd definately go for BA's.

Hope that helped! x

So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

During the Crusades the BA and WE had a bit of 'sibling rivalry' for the most close-combat won victories didn't they? So the BA Codex would be cool.

Keep in mind that you have no control over how many Death Company you get.

Black Templars might not be a bad way to go either, giving all initiates BP/CCW.

However, BA is probably the best choice over all with cheaper rhinos and the Death Company as berserkers.

Also, regular CSM might not be bad as well. Model all your troops with their BP/CCW out and their bolters slung across their backs, and you have assault squads. Chosen can have piles of power weapons, and terminators are, well, terminators.

Considering the change in technology since the Heresy, it might be easier to make a fluffy army using the Chaos 'dex in general. It might be a tad underpowered though, since you might have a hard time justifying the power units of daemon princes and obliterators.

In the BA rules, you get one Death Company for each Tactical, Assault, Termy or Veteran squad, and you can buy more up to a maximum ten. So, although the amount changes with each army list, you can alays figure out how many you're getting...

I also think that Blood Angels are your best bet. You want to run a pre Heresy style army so you'll want to use a codex that is close to what was defined by the Imperial creed... sure Space Wolves are a great assault army but then again they are very unique, too unique in my opinion. As has been pointed out with Blood Angels you can take both assault squads and veteran assault squads, and trade the jump packs for rhinos. You can design a list that would fit in well with the background you desire if you selected Blood Angels plus it could also be a competive army.
