Personally, I think that this whole endeavor is a complete waste of time. Let FOX news be stupid, ignore them, and move on; just do not try and beat them at their own game. I was hoping that the current administration would be keeping an even keel on such issues, that I would consider to be unwinnable by default.
Obama also spent a lot of time confirming the fact that he was indeed, not... GW bush... again, NOT... GW bush. I was not particularly happy about this tactic, and I would not be surprised if Obama himself was against this direction from the beginning.
You can't really let fox news just run wild by itself, it's the dominant news network in a nation of lazy undereducated morons. It's got a pretty demanding marketshare, and it can destroy a government initiative through simple blind lying.

There are many ways to skin a cat though man, and slapping the administrations thumbprint onto such "claims" against FOX news, seems to be a poorly thought out diversion.
The internet is, overall, against FOX news and what it stands for. The blind lies, and the underhanded presentation affiliated with some of the opinion shows on that network, can be easily countered through mass communication. If there was more support for this move by the administration, I feel that they could easily find more effective alternatives to this kind of shouting match... which FOX will win at any rate.
Less division, more integration and understanding, it is just more tactically efficient than this kind of thing.
Hell, you could land a few nutshots on FOX news using nothing but facebook and twitter.

If there was ever an illusion that FoxNews was actually a news source that should be over now.
As the commentary here has revealed, if people tend to think of FoxNews as representing moronic liars then attacking it will allow the White House and its supporters to look more like sincere intellectuals to that same crowd.

Unfortunately the American populace isn't that smart, as fox news once again growing ratings suggest. They have almost single handedly stalled new health care legislation and thrown both parties into dissaray. To pass popular legislation while being bi partisan you have to please fox, which is physically impossible, as they will never be pleased by anything that comes from a left centric governing body as a matter of course, no matter how reasonable or on what grounds. It's simply not going to make them money to agree. The only thing left is to disenfranchise them by removing them from the equation. This will give them strength at first, but you can't run a news network that primarily reports on the government without some sort of give from that legislative body. Over time their gains will erode.

While I agree that maybe going after Fox News isn't the best politics, there has to come a point with some of this reporting that the White House can simply say "this, this, and that were all wrong, and came from Fox News."
I'm enjoying watching this circle je...er commentary.
How dare a network disagree with The Leader. The fact the administration picked out Fox news to make a straw man is alone sufficient to give them merit and standing. OT but the WSJ is about to pass USA Today in subscribers. Excellent and a nice sign that literacy still lives in the US.

The problem with what you just said is that the same thing can be said about other "news" agencies. (CBS and Dan Rather come to mind)
I personally think it's a mistake to give FOX credibility by attacking them.
Ive found that all news networks are bias to one extent or another, and its not limited to the US. so this is no real surprise to me, after all, the networks are there to sell themselves, and conflict and conflicting views Sell.
Agreed. Once you recognize this you can watch more than one and be aware of the biases to get a more well rounded view. I watch both CNN and FOX. I listen to the BBC and NPR. I read WSJ, local rag, Washington Times, Yahoo News, and Debtwire.

Canadians are easy to spot! They have a floppy head that's split in two by the mouth, and one side lifts when they talk, while American's have normal heads and their mouths open when they talk. If you don't believe me, watch South Park the Movie.
PS: Ike is an adopted Canadian.

CNN is just as much of a joke as Fox News. Look at CNN at anytime (aside from maybe Anderson Cooper), its a JOKE! They spent fething 6 days with only Michael Jackson coverage (weren't there some wars and economic policies being figured out then?) Fox is definitely off base and a huge source of the misinformation dick, but CNN is certainly a whale's vagina.
Er... CNN is too wishywashy. Few stories of substance and the ones that are, have too much commentary. Precisely why 24 hour news=anti-christ
CNN also spent real time fact checking SNL's skit of Obama. Dude it was a a skit on SNL...

One thing to remember about objectivity in journalism is that it's a relatively recent obsession. Historically, newspapers were blatantly biased, and were in many instances literally part of a party apparatus.
Fox is allowed to disagree with obama, it's even allowed to push a right wing/republican bias to it's hearts (or more likely it's ratings) content. I don't think anybody is saying what Fox is doing is illegal, or wrong in the sense of having a bias.
What is a little wrong, is to have the very specific and notable bias that Fox has and still claim the benefits of journalistic objectivity. Yes, other networks, indeed all creations of man have some biases, but Fox's is among the sharpest.
I think that as long as everybody is told "you are watching the right wing Pravda when you watch Fox," I think it's ok. I know the "fair and balanced" jokes are tired, but I think it makes sense to make sure people understand that it's biased.
I think when any media outlet puts up stuff that is factually incorrect, they should have to correct it and correct it in the same segment the untruth was in, with the same amount of time dedicated to it. After that, have your opinion bias all you want.
