I'm not technically savvy enough to express what exactly I'm suggesting. I don't know if an IRC channel is what I'm wanting or what, but I think it would be neat if there was a "chat room" type format where dakkaites could chat in real time. Is that something that is feasible or is it not worthwhile?

I know I'd like to know what people are wearing and if anybody was into phone sex. Or maybe my exposure to chat rooms has been a little distorted.

A Dakka chat room could be interesting, however,as we are all aware, threads frequently devolve in to total flame wars,it would be a task to prevent a "real time" chat room from turning in to chaos.

I'm sure that with Modquisition vigilance order could be maintained (to a greater or lesser degree).

I have a feeling the Mods would not be interested in taking on such an arduous and time consuming task. They'd have to do what they did with us SwapMods, and make a group of ChatMods.

-Unmoderated the chat will turn ugly really fast.
-Minimally moderated provide problems , as inconsistency with the punishment will lead to what could look like double standards.

I wouldn't mind a chatty thing, but I think the Off Topic forum is fine as it is. I think people put more thought into what they say if they know it will be around for others to read for a significant amount of time.

When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Actually, the Zerg are Starcraft's equivalent to the the Orks. If you think about it.

You mean the bio-engineered, rather insectlike creatures controlled by a Hive Mind, who use biological weapons to kill and then consume the DNA of their foes?
Very Orkish. I especially love their tanks.

No, I got this one all figured out: Ages ago the [Old Ones/Xel'Naga] wandered the galaxy; some say they were the most powerful species to ever exist. The [Old Ones/Xel'Naga] created new, sentient races wherever they went; the two most important of which were the [Eldar/Protoss] and the [Orks/Zerg]. Both of these creations were highly psychic, as were the [Old Ones/Xel'Naga] themselves. The [Eldar/Protoss] were created first. They were given near-perfect bodies, great technology, and incredible psychic powers. However, they eventually became divided and selfish, and this led to [The Fall/The Eon of Strife]. The [Eldar/Protoss] have saved themselves from this by following [The Paths/The Khala], a strict set of guidelines for life and interactions with society, giving each [Eldar/Protoss] a defined role. Some of the [Eldar/Protoss] rebelled against this, and became outcasts known as the Dark [Eldar/Templar]. The [Eldar/Protoss] really like to consider themselves better than humans, and have considered themselves the greatest race of all time for quite a while. The [Old Ones/Xel'Naga] saw the [Eldar/Protoss] as a self-absorbed failure, and vowed to create a new race to serve their ends. For this reason the [Old Ones/Xel'Naga] created a second race, called the [Orks/Zerg]. The [Orks/Zerg] started out as tiny [Spores/Bugs], but were soon engineered by the [Old Ones/Xel'Naga] to become far more. The [Orks/Zerg] do not have a set physiology, and they contain many different subtypes, such as [Grots/Drones] made for labor, [Ork Boys/Hydralisks] built for combat, [Attack Squigs/Zerglings] built as animalistic attackers, [Squiggoths/Ultralisks] which are giant beasts capable of smashing anything in their way, and [Meks/Mutalisks] which have the ability for space travel ingrained in their DNA. All of these different types of [Ork/Zerg] work together to create a fully functional society. They also share many physiological traits, such as extreme resilience and regenerative ability, genetically encoded knowledge of what role they were built for, and a fundamental relation to the [Spores/Insects] they had originally come from. [Ork/Zerg] intelligence is highly debated by humans, but it is known that if nothing else they have a degree of cunning that makes them very dangerous. The [Orks/Zerg] will never fall into the type of selfishness and divisiveness that the [Eldar/Protoss] fell into, because they are united by the [Waaagh/Hivemind], which tells its race to expand and conquer; although they certainly do fight amongst themselves when the [Waaagh/Hivemind] isn't governing them. Unfortunately the [Orks/Zerg] rebelled against their creators, who are now all but deceased. They also really like groovin' music, and they talk in a deep voice. Both of these races will feature as main factions in a popular computer game, along with humans. The [Eldar/Protoss] will have expensive, elite units with a lot of mobility, while the [Orks/Zerg] will have a lot of cheap horde units. The humans will be somewhere in the middle (with a lot of variety), and [Spess Mehrens/Spawn Moar Overlords] will become an internet meme.

Eh? I wrote this up myself, but someone may have noticed it before me. It does follow a sort of format that's been used before:
