I'm just curious if anyones still playing the Blood Angels or not? I mean I still have my Army since 3rd Edition and the rules for them haven't changed to much just a little with that paper reprint in WD and on the website that they gave out. But is it worth playing them with either the new SM rules (Codex) or using their last Update? Or is anyone even playing them at all anymore?

Really? Which rules set does she use? I mean if you use the new SM Codex can you still use the BA Special rules or do you have to go pure Codex BA or pure Codex SM?

She uses the pdf BA codex from the GW site.

She uses a mechanized list. It works for her.

If you want to play BA competively there is basically one template -> Dante & Corbulo. Combined they give your units both preferred enemy and furious charge. It's solid for an assault orient approach to the army which fits in with the background. The problem is that this is the only way to play the army competively and you might find it boring after awhile. There are some variations on what else to bring. I have found that most players like to run their Death Company with jump packs but personally I prefer to run them in a transport, either a rhino or a landraider. I saw one list this past weekend at an Indy GT with two dreadnaughts (Venerable and Venerable Furisio Death Company dreadnaughts, both mounted in drop pods) that took best overall. It's definitely a solid army but it requires a lot of thought to pull off all the tactics and work the combinations... So basically while it is strong it's not a point and click EZ button army. A lot of people like to run MMAB... the problem with these units is that they give up easy killpoints along with rhinos and razorback heavy mech lists. You can take assault squads as a troop choice but I have found them to be both expensive and nothing special. Tactical squads are a much better choice in my opinion. I was running two Baal predators for a long time but eventually switched that out for a landraider, which I personally think is the better choice. Two Baal predators are very strong in shooting and they come with overcharged engines built in so they are definitely a good choice. I think the best unit are the veteran assault squads (VAS) with jump packs. they have a lot of options, cost only slightly more than a regular assault squad (RAS) and can dish out a lot of punishment. If you run Dante and Corbulo then assault terminators are an excellent choice but you can only take a maximum of five per unit.

Dante is very good in close combat, especially when you also take Corbulo. I run him with a large VAS and they are monsters. I am now at the point where I want to play other armies but I have really enjoyed playing almost exclusively Blood Angels over the past couple years.

Thanks, wasn't sure hat kind she was using and I know a few players went away from the BA pdf codex update and just started using the new SM Codex in its place, but I think you lose alot of what makes the Blood Angels the Blood Angels once you do that.

I have all the HQ special characters that you can get for the Army and I think one of them has actually been taken out of the pdf Codex because he died in the Fluff or something I can't remember, I'd have to go and look at the pdf again. But thanks for the info on the competitive side of playing the Blood Angels in the 5th edition play set. I have a Land Raider Crusader in my BA ranks. But not sure if that's a good fit, I mean I was looking at taking an Assault Terminator Squad into the Army and see how they worked with them in the Land Raidier. I didn't know you could make a Death Company Dreadnought Venerable, that's kind of sick. You're right though trying to drop those in and make them work would be a bit of a tactical challenge and would need a bit more thinking to make it work effectively, since I know those are always big low AP weapon targets with a big old "X" painted on their hulls. I don't think I would run such an Assaulty army in the terms of making all my troop choices Assault Marines with Jump Packs. But it is a nice little change of pace from the generic 5~10 man squad in a rhino/razorback. At the same time I need more stay power, and I'm hoping the LRC will give that to me and allow me to bring a heavy hitting CC squad into the fray long enough to make a difference. Possible dropping Dreads could bring a bit of fun to that, I'm not sure I'll have to look what I have and what might work best together.

I play Dante and Lemartes. Works pretty well for me.

Lemartes is okay but the combination of preferred enemy and furious charge is extremely potent. I run my DC in a transport with Corbulo.

I started shifting my SM to BA when the WD Codex came out, and I will probably rebuild my SMs as BA when the final BA Codex releases.

Awesome, I'll have to re-look at my pdf print out of the BA codex and see how those abilities work together.

While Tycho is MIA and presumed dead according to the fluff (he was death-companied and stayed behind in the third battle for Armageddon-it) he still has rules for the non-DC version in the downloadable PDF.

Just started a BA force, long time Ork Boy. Got a small Battle Force set, some Sternguard, some Vanguard, Commander, Ironclad, and some Masters.

I love my BA army to Death! Play them 50% of the time cause I am also in love with my Deamonhunters army. I love running Lemartes and Corbolo but that is just because I do not have the model for Dante. I am not really a competitive player. I enjoy running my DC with jump packs and Lemartes. I must say I also love the Death Company Dreadnoughts. I usually run a 10 man assault squad and two 5 man tac squads as well both in razorbacks. While not totally competitive its a fun list to play and I win a decent amount of the time. I am ecstatic of the rumors of the new stuff to come out. I was unable to get my hands on space hulk for the terminators. (However thats not a total loss cause I would never play them anyways) I just wish I could get my hands on the furiso dreadnought models as well as a few baal predators. Glad to see someone who loves the BA.

Ive always played BA despite rule changes.. As Green blowfly says there is only one template to winning now and thats Dante + Corbulo

Anything else just doesnt stack up much due to codex creep
