It seems if I take heavy weapons too many boyz get too close and wipe me. If I take anti personnel then his vehicles walk around unchecked. Either way I am at a disadvantage.

I would suggest using a couple of dedicated purpose-focused units to try to stop the transports, and the bulk of your troops to kill the boys.

Relatively inexpensive transport-killing options include: Oblits, 4x Missile Lancher Havocs, deep-striking 3x combi-melta terminator squads.

If you include a unit in a transport carrying an Icon to rush TOWARDS the Orks, you can improve the accuracy/reliability of the DSing terminators. A nice combo might be a unit of Berserkers with a naked sacrificial Skull Champ, and summon a Greater Daemon out of him.

Oblits are the answer to all of your problems.
Orks have a hard time hurting T5, have you considered PMs?
Orks have no psychic defense, what about Lash?

I'm serious, Lash/PM/Oblits works really well against Orks...

If you're trying to deal with armor AND large numbers of troops, it seems like a nice powerful pie plate or two is what you need. Maybe try a couple Vindicators? Unlike lascannons and things of that nature, they don't lose their effectiveness once the enemy disembarks, and not *too* many things in the Ork arsenal can reliably pop their front armor.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

5 Havocs. 2ML. 2 AC. 10 CSM w/ ML, Rhino w/havoc. 365 points of trukk busting, boy smashing goodness. Some of the best success against my friend trukk army has focused around those 2 units. The havoc squad pretty much WILL take out a trukk each turn, unless you get a shocker of a roll. Even if you immobilize/stun it, its one more turn of that trukk sitting over there instead of driving here the frag from the ML and the Havoc launcher, the boltgun from the other marine in the rhino, and the combi-bolter on the front is enough to kill 3+ orks generally (not including casualities from explodin' trukks!)- and with a capacity of 12, thats a moral check at Ld 7

Asides from those 2 fruitloop squads chilling out near a objective, you need a pair of steel balls and you need to ride into the belly of that beast. Try using terrain- if your oppenent is not packing stikkbombs, he will strike last assaulting you through cover. Also use terrain, as much as possible, to funnel orks- those big mobs need to fit through somehow, and that somehow can be very very time consuming if you can make those orks go to a funnel. If you can pop a trukk or 2 inside your funnel, you will have a much more relaxed game against orks Flamers are 1 of your best friends against orks- no armour save, no cover save, big mobs of infantry- sounds like a perfect target yeah? shame they are... well... orks, and anyone you don't crispify is going to charge you and introduce you to Mr. Choppa ... however, 2 plague marine flamers in a rhino is a combo made in heaven. Drive up to some boyz, give them some burnin'... If he wants to hurt your marines, hes going to have to shoot your rhino. If he has lootaz or tank bustaz, he's got a chance of doing it. If he doesn't, hes going to have to assault the rhino. Then after he opens it like a tin can, its my turn, so i flame him again and charge him. Now lets make sure if your rhino gets popped it isn't going to be horrific- and lets face it, powerklaws are horrific, what they do to 23 ppm Plague marines Have a squad backing up your "forward" squad. I've been enjoying "tactical chaos marines"- 10 CSM w/ ML, Flamer, Rhino. This gives me the option of taking side shots at vehicles with krak missles, or even "THIS TRUKK MUST DIE (its got a warboss in it !), frag missles at clumps of infantry, and 8 boltguns and a flamer to back up my close range plague marine squad.

I could write alot more, but i'm a wee bit busy heavy weaps on CSM/Havoc squads blows up trukks fast. you dont need melta weapons. except the front armour of battlewagons, which you shouldn't hit since they are looong (big side armour) and SA 12.

Oh! Defilers! ! not a must, but not to be sneezed at vs orks!
