OK dakka community, here is a brain-teaser, what, in your opinion, is the best-value unit in WH40K?
By this, I mean, what unit do you think performs the best for its cost?
Be sure to bear in mind not only its slaughter potential, but also its survivability, and other factors, such as randomness and mobility.
So what do you think?

I'd say khorne berserkers are a bargain! 6pts extra for +1WS, furious charge, fearless and mark of khorne?!

The CSM Greater Daemon's pretty cheap too, altho you do have 2 sacrifice a champion 4 em'

The latest Iron Priest is a bargain bucket 2...

But yeah, as Cheese Elemental said, I don't see why people never use Squ *WHACK!* ...

SM Vanilla Attack Bike, MM or HB.
Plague marines and CSM are decent too.
Daemon prince with just wings.
Vultures.
Rune Priests.

What about the Avatar of Khaine, and 6pt Ork boyz?
The Avatar makes bloodthirsters look like bad value, and Ork boyz are cheap enough to pack a real punch thanks to their numerosity.

Marbo. (For some reason I have a sick fascination with him.)

Shows up anywhere on the table barring 1" away from a baddie. Can take down tanks, men, the works with ease.

I like Sisters of Battle w/ Faith

While Ork Boyz are neat, guardsmen or veterans are probably a better 'value' as well as maybe guardians, as they all cost similar points, but the guardians/guardsmen can do a lot more than ork boyz can. (As far as troops goes anyways, Orks are really good at ONE thing, while the others can be made good at a bunch of things, including the one thing orks are good at.)

Everytime I play with them I can hear my opponent cry silently

Callidus assassin. Gets to move an opponents unit pregame and is guaranteed to show up where and when you want her. She strikes fear into the hearts of her opponents.

Wraithlords with wraithswords, T8 str10 I4 monsterous creature with rerolls to hit and TWO (not twin-linked) flamers for 100 pts? Are you kidding me?

+1 to ork boyz. Especially if you can get the charge (WAAAAAGH!)

SOBs, when you compare them to =I= stormtroopers...

DE warriors, IG vets, +1 pt, better WS and I, fleet and better gun.

Ork boys, IG vets, DE sniper squads, HF/MM speeders, Rune priests.

Rhinos and Chimeras get an honorable mention there too.

Probably more that I'm forgetting.

Ork boyz, Grey Hunters. Plague Marines are super duper survivable, but no more killy than Grey Hunters. Even less so actually, given the Grey Hunters' prowess in melee.

Falcons in the 4th ed.

But as we're going back, I'll go with Wraithlords in 3rd Ed.

29 mob with 1 nob p/k


Its cheaper then cheap, has 31 wounds, a TON! of attacks and lead by a nob that can crush light armor/instakill marines.

Your just playing the wrong people then. Any time I see assault terminators I laugh. They really arnt all they are cracked up to be. Fast armies just out pace them, and my boyz have no problem making them go bye bye

I'm tempted to say Termaguants, because they're only 6 points, their guns are S4, AP5 Assault 1 and they get to reroll failed shooting wounds, and they've got Fleet and Move Through Cover. Not bad for 6 points if I do say so myself.

Of course, they'll still get slaughtered under enemy fire, but that's part of the point.

And,I definatly agree with KC,a mob of 29 ork boyz with a PK Nob just chews most things up.

BELIEVE ME! I use mobs for the bulk of my foot troops. And the bigger the mob, the easier it is to just steamroll small tanks. Rhinos? PSSH was of one of my turns basically lol

Autocannon/Heavy Bolter Predator.

85 points gets you AV13 front, 2 BS4 S7 AP4 shots and 6 BS4 S5 AP4 shots.

Conscripts are pretty awsome at 4 points each, and with a mob of 50 and frfsrf, they can tear up a lot of much more expensive units

If you're looking for value, you cannot beat sisters of battle. 11 points base, 3+ save, bolters (not flashlights, bolters), ability to take two special weapons, can take immolators or rhinos, and the faith point system for flashy turns. Oh yeah, and they're troops.

What else can you get for around 11 points? Veteran guardsmen (flashlights, flak armor), hormagaunts, 'eavy boyz, firewarriors, etc. etc. I don't think any of these are up to par with power armor and bolters (and flamers, meltas, storm bolters...).

And that, good sir, is why they're taking out Inquisitorial allies. Points tend to only be balanced within an army.
