The Flaming Lips have already recorded a follow-up to “Embryonic.” The band will release a track-by-track interpretation of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” in the near future, which it recorded with Stardeath and the White Dwarfs, a band that features Coyne’s nephew Dennis.

Henry Rollins and Peaches make guest appearances on the album, Coyne told the crowd during a pre-concert question-and-answer session. A Flaming Lips spokesman says the album will likely be an iTunes-only release, at least initially.

This should be pretty interesting. If anyone could understand space rock as well as floyd the Lips might

I like them, but... not sure if it will work. I think it's too quintessentially english.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Okay, so the male version of "Cougar" is now officially "Albatross".

My only question is: Why?
What possibly can they do that will be better than the original?

This 'reinterpreting' - does that mean that the Flaming Lips are a cover band?

P.S. I've got an official bootleg of a Dream Theater show where they played all of Dark Side live... But they certainly didn't try releasing this as an album.

Of sorts, I guess that they've covered numerous songs off the album before. This is will a reimagining of the DSotM in the vein of FL's early psychedelic albums.

I heard Beck did Sergeant Pepper's.... I haven't heard it yet, but apparently it's alright, if a bit weird.

Ok, weirder.

Love me some Beck. If he did Sgt. Peppers, that's be a completely different beast.

As a huge fan of both the Flaming Lips (saw them Sunday at Treasure Island Music Festival) and Pink Floyd, I am Looking forward to this, it may break my conviction that there is no good cover of any Floyd Song. (i said Might) because if anyone can cover Floyd and pull it off, Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozt can. and the Eclipse track Is pretty sweet...

Eh, The Flaming Lips definitely aren't the first to do this. A reggae-esque group called the Easy All Stars already reinterpreted DSOTM.

I don't think anyone inferred they were the first, just saying this could be the best. Although, a reggae-esque DSOTM does sound awful appealing...
