i like the thought of collecting IG because of their human nature and they can be converter with Taimya models to get a uniquie army etc ect

just a thought. do they ever win though ?? every battle report they pretty much get raped

my friend uses them rather effectively, we have a 50/50 win-loss ratio (not counting ties) against each other with all our armies, including his guard.

My IG army does pretty good, just stock up on tanks.

also has anyone noticed that there are hardly ANY brand new in box warhammer items on ebayy ??

no, i don't use ebay. the one time i did, the item in question was found to be broken upon delivery.

Now that folks are learning to use them, they are winning everywhere. IG are, in my opinion, the best army out there right now.

I think really it depends on the player. Some people actually can kick your ass BAD with the Tau. Now normally I laugh at Tau, BUT thats not saying you cant win with them.

If you arnt familar with how to use them, the guard might lose. But then again, you might become the greatest guard player out there. They certainly have the ability to just kick the gak out of people. If you roll up with a load of tanks and a half assed plan, yea you can roll on some people

I love guard. I have 4 different guard regiments. My secret to winning, 9 demolishers. Go big or go home.

My best friend is Annihilation, spearhead with 75 guardsmen, 6 heavy weapons, 3 russ, and 2 basilisk at 1500... my current W-L-D with this list is 6-2-3...

Yes, IG can win, and win frequently. Same answer I've given for the past 10 years. Ya just gotta learn to play them.

IG can definitely win. Many people consider them to be one of the strongest armies.

Mine never win. However, despite the brazen suggestions of my friends to change my list I resolutely refuse. I built my list on what I liked rather than what worked well, so I am full prepared to lose as long as you don't damage my models.

@ OCD but as we finish before most battles end technically you hardly ever lose .

Ig are pretty kick arse and there are many ways to play them. For example you can go: Air Cav, many valks and vendettas filled with vets and supported by stormtroopers; Armoured assault, tanks!!!!! ; Mechanised, chimeras!!!!; Guy spam, menn!!!! and a host of other different playstyles.
Basically there is no one way to win with Guard. You have an extremely flexible codex. Use it. (and feel pity for us DE with only a handful of builds)

Huh i thought when the IG codex came out alot of players complained they were no better in the current codex than the last. I know they are good now not that they werent before but i think they have some of the best options for builds out of the 40k universe IMHO.

Guard are good.

My friend plays them and he has enough models to do whatever he feels. He's really good too. So, yes, they can win. His fricken 50+ man blob of guardsmen running down the field with cover fire from Leman Russ tanks is pretty disconcerting too. Especially when they're taking all the cover I need for my crisis suits...

Frfsrf with a 50 man blob can do a lot of damage too. even if its only with flashlights.

GW put a stop to NIB products on ebay awhile back. Thats why there are hardly any.

On topic: Yes, IG win games. Take alot of tanks.

IG are the best 40K army right now IMO.

I've won all of my matches with my IG so far. But then again, maybe that's because I've played three games...

Guard are very good.

My buddy plays them well. He can pound you with heavy fire, or overbear you with more guardsmen than you can shake a bolter at.

We're about 50/50 (His guard, my Templar).

And he got better with the new codex.

It's the Eldar that gives me the most troubles.

With my guard either i absolutely stomp all over my enemy, or i get absolutely stomped. I've only had one game where it was really close (won by technicality). To say that the guard can't win is completely crazy! Maybe one list can't win against x enemy, but the glory of the guard is the sheer number of list options.

ive never lost a game with my mech IG, if you play it right and run all the cracked units its like you put up a wall and nothing can get past it and live.

I think IG can win easily with the right table. If there's plenty of space between you and the enemy (table MUST be at least 4" across) you will pepper him to ribbons. More terrain helps you a LOT since your grunt guys have poor armor. They need trees to hide in. This also helps them when they are assaulted.

To win, you need to focus on getting lots of firepower. There's this certain weapons battery they can get that fires templates - oh boy, my friend took like 9 of these or so and blew me to smithereens while I was running up the table! I never got to H2H!

IG guys will tell you more, but I can assure you, used correctly, IG can be very hard to beat despite the weakness of the individual models. Also let's not forget, they're dirt cheap on points, so it is definitely a Strength in Numbers thing.

ok talking from expirience my guard w-l-d ratio is 9-2-2 and because of the new codex with the commands i've found not much can beat 4 russes 100 guard and 2 vendetta's with veterans with meltas. But i suppose it's not just "how good the army is" but also you have to remember it's a game based on random dice rolls. But anyway i'm a big fan of guard. Even more so in apocalypse
