I have a lot of ork minis that I hadn't planned to use since I want to use a chaos marine army. I found a forum discussion about chaos orks and making a chaos ork unit. I've found other mentioning of this on other sites but nothing official that would lead me to use these in my army. Does anyone know about this? If so, can you point me in the right direction? The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Thanks in advance.

Nothing that I've seen, however Orks in a CSM army would be good, esp as counts as Bezerkers - make em 'eavy armour Orks and they would look good.

Yea. I've been going through the internet with a fine-tooth comb and not much to report. It would be cool though. Thanks for the reply all the same.

I've seen people play "chaos orks" but they just use the Ork codex & pain / convert to chaos. Other people use "counts as" but I don't think theres an official chaos orks list and I know you can't combine Ork codex with any other.

I understand the "counts as" idea but I don't know the "pain/convert to chaos" you mention. Is this something in the Ork Codex?

And, If you've seen chaos orks, what did they do just paint them chaos colors and make them all spiky and what not?

You haven't seen much about them as the old codexii said that Orks were pretty much impervious to Chaos. One cause they didn't care about it and because Gork and Mork beat the Chaos god regularly.... Or at least that's my memory at what feels like 5am in the morn.

Use your imagination mess around with mutation sprues & chaos vehicle sprues regularly have spikes & chaos marks. Have fun with it.

There is nothing official anymore then players simply deciding to use different units from different codexes together. If you and your opponent agree on the rules together you can choose to do anything you want.

But by the rules as written, Orks are used in an Ork army and Chaos Space Marines are used in a Chaos Space Marine army and there is no 'official' way to mix the two.

Back in older editions of the game there were general 'ally' rules that allowed you to take units from other armies in your army, and Chaos and Orks were indeed allowed to ally, but those rules are long since gone from the game.

So at this point if you really want to use some Orks in your Chaos army you'd have to use the 'counts-as' rule, using your Ork models as a stand-in for a unit found in the CSM codex. The 'counts-as' rule is mostly just a hobby guideline, you aren't going to find this 'rule' in your CSM codex, for example. But rest assured, as long as you aren't using this rule to try to confuse your opponents, most players will have no problems with you using a mob of Orks to represent Bezerkers (for example).

The Yak has it.

IIRC, there was such a thing as Chaos Orks in the original Rogue Trader edition.

If you want to do this go for it. Orks might not TURN chaos, but they will for damn sure hire themselves OUT to chaos. I could also see them painting the chaos glyphs on themselves just because. Totally a usable idea

How did you know. LOL.

I've been trying to find some info on Rogue trader, but all I come up with RPG stuff. Is this a magazine or something like WD that might contain the Chaos orks mentioned earlier?

Rogue trader is the 1st edition of 40K. There's lots of wacky stuff in there that was later dropped as the various factions became better defined.

It's a great read if you ever come across a copy.

Rotting Sorcerer of Nurgle

Well, here is an example:

Look in the Daemon Hunters codex.
There is a one-off game option where the opponent can introduce daemons into their army.

The 2 page spread has NURGLE Orks across the bottom...

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I've never seen them as anything but mutants. I guess they look sorta Orky, but they lack a bunch of proppa features like Teef an' Gubbins.

Had a look through RT and can't see anything there about Chaos Orks.

Count as Bezerkers == awesomeness however, just make them as heavily armoured as possible

That would kinda be kool if you glued ork arms to chaos marines i guess.

I think that's the way I'll go. I'll make a squad and give the rest to my son to get him started.

Thanks everyone for your input!!

I know someone that is mixing the Chaos Marauders sprues/icons from fantasy and using them in his orks army. He's also painting all the Orks "red" instead of green as, of course they are going to be Khornate.
